What's causing my 1.4-litre Ford Fiesta to cut out when I slow down?

My 2004 Ford Fiesta 1.4-litre cuts out every time I slow down, say at a traffic light. It starts again, but if I do not keep moving and revving then it cuts out again. One garage said this could be a speed sensor and that they could not fix it. Is this correct or could it be something else?

It could be a number of problems but the best thing is to take it to a reputable garage and get the issue properly diagnosed. If you can't find a reputable garage, contact the AA or RAC who should be able to send someone out to find out what the problem is. The problem is clearly repairable as are any faults on cars - try another garage as it sounds like they are just fobbing you off.
