Buying a car with space on a budget - any ideas?`

I am looking to buy a new car to replace my old Mazda 323 as I have a sneaking suspicion its about to cost me a lot of money to keep (suspension, tyres, MoT, tax renewal to name a few things!).

I'm a mum to a one year old so need space for pushchair along with the weekly shop. I have also just gone back to work, which requires me to drive all over the county of Surrey. Childcare isn't cheap so I'd love to find a reliable, roomy car that won't struggle to get up a hill with a boot full. What do you recommend I buy?

The most spacious small cars inside are the Honda Jazz (new one on the way next year); Hyundai ix20; KIA Venga; Ford B-Max.
