What is causing condensation inside my friend's 1995 Vauxhall Astra?

I have a friend who has a 1995 Vauxhall Astra that, in this weather, suffers severe internal condensation. Do you know of any way in which this can be reduced or preferably eliminated?

What has happened is that the plastic waterproof membranes inside the doors have disintegrated. They need replacing. For a car of this age, it's best to make your own using builders plastic DPC membrane. Getting the door panels off without breaking the clips is fiddly, don’t plan on doing anything else that day.
