Last Saturday six of us packed into my son’s Mazda 5 to go on a picnic to celebrate my grandson’s fifteenth birthday. With all the picnic hampers, room was at a premium. Twenty minutes into the journey we stopped because of a puncture in the rear offside tyre. It was completely flat and, on being removed by the AA, showed wear right down to the wire on its inner edge and the inner wall, which had collapsed. The small 'Get You Home' wheel was fitted and our AA mechanic then had a look at the rest of the tyres, promptly warning that the rear inside wheel was just as bad, and that there were signs of wear and tracking problems on both front wheels. He suggested we get all the tyres changed immediately. None of this was visible to the inexperienced eye, and although not new they all appeared to have plenty of tread. I would not like any other family to be put at risk like this, they need to be made aware.
