Buying a used car - how can I check for accident history?

I am looking at buying a used SEAT from a main dealer. I have negotiated a good deal, but the seller is some distance from where I live. The car comes with warranty and 30 day return policy, but I am worried about accident history. Should I pay for an RAC inspection on the car?

All you have to do is ask the dealer to state whether or not the car has suffered any crash damage in writing as part of the purchase contract. If it has and he doesn't declare it, he will have to give you your money back.

No need for an expensive inspection that is not legally binding anyway. The RAC will not appear in court to back anyone up who breaches a purchase contract on the basis of an RAC inspection. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
