Troubles with an insurance claim

Our car was vandalised when we were walking our dog. Came back to find the passenger window broken and hidden bags of shopping (under coats), the sat nav and other goods gone. We phoned the police and got a crime number then called our insurance company.
The car is making a dreadful noise so got it towed to a garage via the insurance. They will pay for this damage to my window but not to the mechanical fault. We have now moved the car via recovery vehicle to a Land Rover garage who have said the timing chain has come off and is not broken and are unsure what damage this has caused.

The garage said this must have been caused by someone pushing the car back or trying to tow it back whilst it was in first gear - not our recovery vehicle. The insurance said this is nothing to do with my claim and won't pay for it. They asked us to prove it, and the garage has sent a report which they have declined.

Any idea what else I can do?

Take the entire matter against your insurer to the small claims track of the county court, starting with www.moneyvclaim.gov.uk
