£500 for a new water pump on a Polo – is this a fair price?

My daughter took her 2005 Volkswagen Polo automatic in for a service recently and was told that the car has a fault with the water pump. According to the dealer, the repairs will cost £500 including labour. Does this sound correct, or should we get a second opinion?

That's what replacing a water pump, timing belt, tensioner and pulleys costs on a Polo. The work was actually overdue and if the pump had failed it would have thrown off the timing belt, leaving the engine to self-destruct.
