Need a reliable and cheap car for a tall driver

I'm 27 and have just passed my driving test. I am looking for a cheap car to run, but have a slight problem in that I am six foot eight inches tall and don't seem to fit into many cars.

It’s not the headroom issue, as you might expect, but the legroom - in many small cars I can't reach the brake pedal due to space constraints in the footwell and the seat not going down/back far enough.

The only cars I have found that are suitable are the Ford Focus and Peugeot 307, but would you recommend any of these for the £2000 (give-or-take) budget I have?

For £2000 a Mk1 Ford Focus is one of the best of the bunch. But stick to a simple 1.6iLX or Zetec.
