Rav4 power loss

The car has an intermittent fault. When occurring there is a sudden power loss. The engine does not stop but pushing the accelerator has no affect. You can continue to your destination but only slowly, forty or fifty mph. Pulling into a lay by and revving the engine in neutral seems to solve the problem until the next time. There does not seem to be any particular circumstance when this fault arises.

I have had the suction control valves and fuel filter replaced. Diagnostic tests do not show fault codes. The garage, which is a fuel injection specialist, is puzzled.

Well you engine is going into limp mode, and normally a diagnostic would show up a fault code, which helps identify the problem.

However you say that diagnostic did not show any codes, so we would suggest that the following areas be checked.

1. MAF (mass air flow sensor)
2. CKP (crankshaft position sensor)
3. EGR (exhuast gas recycling valve) -try cleaning it
4. Check all vacuum hoses.
5. Check the wastegate valve
6. Check the VSV (vacuum switching Valve)
