Do you have to tell your insurer that you've attended a Speed Awareness Course?

After reading of ES of Newton Abbot’s speeding and subsequent Speed Awareness Course, I thought I would add my thoughts after attending a course earlier in the month (56mph in a 50mph). The course is run by self-employed driving tutors - not by the police - and like the tutors state at the onset, it is an adult course and you are treated like one, which was my first surprise. I also learned things about speeding, judging speeding zones and general road safety that I had forgotten many years earlier - my second surprise. At four hours, it is a long course but most people attend to avoid getting points and therefore it's reasonable. Overall I thought it to be a good, well thought-out course which does teach you things in an adult manner and is therefore well worth attending. You also do not have to tell your insurance company since you have not received points on your license.

Unfortunately, some insurers have started asking if you have attended a speed awareness course, much to the fury of the IAM. If yours turns out to be one of them express your outrage by changing insurers.
