Timescale for damage assessment by insurers

My daughter's 11 year old car was run into over five weeks ago. The impact was so severe the rear valance was embedded in the rear tyres, the bumper and tailgate crushed, the C-post and front and rear doors were all pushed together - and the roof and floor pan kinked around the B-post.

Given the age and damage I suspect its a write-off. As a no fault accident her comprehensive insurer initially put her in the hands of an accident management company who moved the car to a compound for assessment. Despite repeated chasing by my daughter, her insurer says they are still awaiting information from an inspection before they can proceed.

In these days of email and digital cameras, does this seem correct? The car was no banger, being well-maintained and cared-for. Nor has any rental car been supplied at any stage, we simply sorted ourselves out.

If they have put her into a 'credit hire car' in the meantime then my suspicions are aroused. They will delay the assessment as long as possible in order to make as much out of the hire of the car as they can and if the other party's insurer considers the cost of the hire car unreasonable then your daughter may have to pay for it herself. Complain loudly to your insurer, not the accident management outfit.
