Ford C-MAX - Temperature gauge not behaving correctly

I have just purchased a 2009, Ford C-MAX 2.0-litre auto petrol. We have had the car for less than a week, and have noticed that the temperature gauge rises to 90 degrees within 1-2 minutes of starting the engine, and the fan comes on.

One of the belts has started slipping and I have the car booked in tomorrow for a replacement under warranty. Any ideas as to why the temperature would rise so quickly, I have asked the dealer to look into this issue & check the water pump and thermostat to ensure they are working.

When I picked up the car, I noticed a small amount of 'mayonnaise' under the oil filler cap, and because of this I managed to get a 12-month warranty to cover any head gasket issues, as well as a 6-month warranty for everything else.

Do you think I should have walked away from this one?

If the car has been sitting on a dealer lot for months, occasionally being started to move it about, then this will have left a lot of condensation inside the engine and is probably the reason for the mayo. But the engine has another problem.

Even if the thermostat was stuck closed it would not normally heat up so much so quickly, so that definitely requires investigation.
