Power loss and white smoke on a Ford Mondeo

I have a problem with my Mondeo when the temp reaches halfway the engine starts cutting out as if no fuel is getting through, it eventually stalls, but if I leave it for twenty minutes it starts as normal. It will only do a couple of miles before it starts jumping again, though. It is fine when cold and the strange thing is it does not happen when I have less than half a tank of fuel. it has done 166k and as I say with quarter of a tank seems to drive fine.

Well white smoke is indicating that the fuel being injected into the cylinder is not burning correctly.(the smoke will burn your eyes)
Reasons for this are.

1.Engine/ Pump timing out.
2.Fuel starvation to the pump causing timing not to operate correctly
3.Low engine compression
4.Water/Petrol in the fuel.

Other than that you should also check the fuel filter (last time it was changed)
also the injectors would normally need servicing at around 100k to 120k.
You also have a Fuel Rail Pressure sensor fitted that may require checking.
Last but not least check the CKP (crankshaft position sensor) again a low cost but frequent problem.

Lastly make sure of the colour of the smoke ie Blue/Black/White
