Mitsubishi Colt auto won't engage reverse gear

The auto reverse gear usually engages first time but occasionally when I stop, leave the engine running putting it into neutral and then into reverse again it will not engage, just O comes up on the dash.

I have found that if I turn the engine off it will now go into reverse. The car has been back with a Mitsubishi garage 3 times but each time they say no fault has been found, but suggested I try pressing my foot harder on the brake pedal when attempting to get it into reverse and dont go too quick from turning the engine on and trying to engage reverse.

Do you have any advice please as the car will soon run out of warranty and I want to get this problem sorted.

Though this is an automated manual, not an automatic, see if a local member of www.fedauto.co.uk is familiar with the problem. Might simply need a clutch release adjustent.
