Which wheels and tyres for an Audi A6 Avant?

I have recently bought an Audi A6 Avant SE Quattro 3.0L diesel 09 plate. I have recently sold a Jaguar XJ8 and wanted as quiet and smooth a ride as possible. The choice of Audi SE Quattros was limited.

The road noise is quite loud but does vary between the different surfaces becoming silent on smooth tarmac.
The tyres are Continental 225 50 R 17 98Y Sport contact 2. The visible part of the wheel hub/rims measures 18.5" diameter. I live in a small village off Salisbury Plain where snow in not treated or ploughed.

1. What tyres you would go for in the future.
2. What tyres are best for an all weather/ winter tyre to save the expense of two sets?

You can't change the tyre size on this car. 225/50 R17 is the minimum size of wheel and maximum profile. Vredestein Quatracs came out best all weather tyre in the Auto Bilt tests.
