Changing tyre size
I would like to know if it is feasable to fit a different size tyre to my 2010 Skoda Octavia VRS (petrol) as the current tyre size (225/40 R18 92Y) is uncomfortable and noisy on roads other than motorway tarmac.
Also, would a size change affect the speedometer reading? I appreciate that this car is a hot hatch, but as an older driver I would accept a slight reduction in roadholding to obtain a more comfortable ride on B roads!

You would have to go down a wheel size or two, assuming the will fit round the brakes. Can't simply put deeper profile tyres on the 18" wheels.

I own a 2005 Skoda Octavia Estate 1.9TDI 4X4. I bought the car eight months ago when it had done 44,000 miles. It has now done 62,000 miles and I have gone through three sets of rear tyres in that time....

I have Skoda Octavia TDI VRS currently on aluminium wheels with 225/40/18 summer tyres. Would steel wheels with 205/55/16 winter tyres be a good combination for winter motoring?

If I fit 16-inch wheels and 205/55 R 16 summer tyres to my 2010 Octavia VRS, in your opinion would I get a more comfortable ride than on the 18-inch wheels and 225/40 R18 tyres fitted as standard?
