Avoiding a steering motor problems in a Panda

I was perturbed to read your answer regarding the burning out of the electric motor on the Fiat Panda steering, as my wife owns a 1 year old Panda.

Can you please explain further what you mean by holding it on full lock (and how can this be alleviated?

When you turn the steering to the lock stop, immediately wind a fraction off so you are not holding it against the lock stop.
