No go area
I recently had a heart-stopping moment with my 2007 Passat TDi 170 DSG. Coming up to a major road I braked from about 55 to a stop and because there was an acceptable gap tried to accelerate away. There was a hesitation before the revs built up to get me out of the way of oncoming traffic. I've heard stories of this being a known fault but the local dealer says there are no recalls outstanding on my car. Can you comment please? (Apart from suggesting I leaving larger gaps in the future.)

Yes, that can happen with DSGs because they won't accelerate if their electronics think you are braking and there can sometimes be a few seconds delay between a driver getting off the brakes and the system allowing the engine to accelerate again.
