Where's the power band?

Please could you tell me the power band of the engine of a Honda Civic EX GT VTEC, and how that should affect the way I drive it. (Please don't assume any techinical knowledge on my part, so make your explanation simple!)

Drive by feel. Change up as soon as you feel the engine can take the next gear. Assuming its a 6-speed 1.8 you can sometimes block change from 4th to 6th, 3rd to 5th. No need to go throughh all the gears.
