Is a petrol Toyota Yaris good for motorways or should we switch to a small diesel car?

My grandson commutes 64 miles each day on mostly motorways. He has a 2016 Toyota Yaris petrol with 44,000 miles on the clock. Would you advise him to change to a small diesel car or to stick with the Yaris? In total he does about 20,000 miles annually

Unless your grandson wants or needs a new car, there is no real reason to change to a small diesel. Although he is covering a relatively high annual mileage and lots of motorway driving, the Yaris is a pretty economical car to begin with. His economy would improve if he went for a similarly-sized diesel car, but it would only be a small saving and would take many thousands of miles to offset the additional cost of diesel fuel and road tax.
