How much oil should new cars have when delivered?

We bought three Skoda Kamiqs 1.0 autos (DCT) in May 2022. All three have less than 3,000 miles so far. We checked the oil levels and all are about half full or less. One of the cars has been back to a different dealer for a warranty repair on the airbag system and we enquired about oil level and we’re told they are only half filled from new. Is this correct?

It depends on your definition of 'half full' as if the oil is halfway between the 'minimum' and 'maximum' point on the dipstick it is not half-full. Even just above the minimum oil point there is a safe amount of oil to run the engine with. It's when the dipstick is completely dry or below this minimum that you need to be concerned. Filling oil to its maximum point risks over-oiling if done without care, which can be similarly damaging.
