Automatic fears

I purchased a Mazda 2 1.4 automatic 4 years ago and have so far covered 41,000 incident free miles. Well almost, for at each annual service I have reported and asked to be checked the problem of the car sometimes not immediately responding to selection of reverse gear. After all the services, the Mazda Agent has always assured me that no fault could be found. However, after the service on 28th September, as well as reporting that no fault could be found, to my dismay the receptionist mentioned that her Mazda also had the same problem. Since this is getting worse, and has now spread to Drive I feel that the car will sooner or later will let me down in a confined space or become undriveable. Your help in discovering whether many other Mazda 2 cars have this latent fault or your recommendation to cure this problem will be appreciated.
