Morespring lurch technique
A recent problem with a 2003 Renault Clio. I left the house, drove 100 yards, heard a big bang from one of the tyres. I fitted the spare, drove 2 miles, heard a second big bang and found that the replacement tyre was also punctured. I called out a local garage who advises a problem with a spring. I seem to recall an item in your column relating to a similar problem. Could you advise please?

Fractured coil spring. The sharp end has dislodged and stabbed the inner sidewall of the tyre. Very common in all European makes and models of car because of the way they are made and seated. Usually finished off by speed humps.
