I drive into a large pothole last weekend in the dark near where I live
(Stockport in Cheshire) and my front nearside alloy wheel of my A4 Audi quattro 3.0 litre was severely damaged and has to be replaced. I have taken photos of the damage and the pothole. What do I do to get re-dress from the local authority for this damage. I have seen similar cases dealt with in your column and so I would like a refresher on what to do.

What you can get depends on whether or not the potholes was reported by anyone else before it damaged your car, how often the council inspected the road, how quickly the pothole formed after the last inspection. Basically whether the council has been negligent in not filling a reported pothole. More help at www.potholes.co.uk
