Without hesitation

I noted your recent comment on the time lag with VW DSG gearboxes when starting at junctions. My three-year-old Passat 2.0TDi DSG suffers from this to such an extent I am considering changing it for a Golf. I have test driven the new Golf 2.0TDi DSG that performs much better. What are the pros and cons in behaviour between the petrol and diesel versions (I would prefer petrol due to refinement)?

Ford and Getrag have got it much better with the Powershift. Renault too with its new ‘Efficient Dual Clutch’. But I spent a week getting used to a SEAT Ibiza 1.4 TSI twincharger 150 7-speed DSG with paddleshifts and it was okay right up to the moment I went to pick up the collection driver, when it bogged down across a busy junction at the station. I think a diesel will always be worse because the electronics seek to protect the transmission from the greater torque reactions from a diesel.
