winter driving - winter tyres and/or 4WD?
Let's say that I am driving in the mountains in winter and that there is snow and ice. I imagine that a 4WD vehicle with winter tyres would be the best car to have? My question is - If my car is not a 4WD but does have winter tyres, would that be as good? If not, what would the disadvantages be? Also - what would be the difference between a 2WD car with front or rear traction?

Almost as good. Certainly better than most 4WDs on summer tyres.
