I've been caught by a red light camera whilst distracted by another vehicle - can I challenge?

I recently crossed a traffic light system as it was changing from amber to red. Normally I would have stopped, but due to watching carefully a wandering learner vehicle I spotted the change of lights a little later than I would otherwise. I felt I had made the decision to cross rather than brake heavily with regards to the safety of other road users. There was no speed issue involved and now wonder what my rights to challenge the decision to prosecute are?

The only defence is "to prevent a crash."
