Toyota unveils new ProAce City van with five-year warranty

Toyota is offering the best small van warranty in the UK, with the new ProAce City getting a five-year/100,000 mile package as standard. The ProAce City van will go on sale in late-2019 and start in the region of £17,000 before VAT.

Born from Toyota’s technical partnership with Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall, the 2019 ProAce City van mirror the styling of the latest BerlingoPartner and Combo and can carry two Euro pallets weighing up to 1000kg.

Offered in two lengths - short and long - the smallest version of the ProAce City has a load length of 1817mm while the long version provides up to 2167mm as standard. Both vans get the option of a Smart Cargo bulkhead loading hatch that adds 1273mm to the overall load length - up to 3440mm - by allowing the driver to use the space under the front passenger seat.

Load volumes range from 3.3 - 3.8 cubic metres for the short wheelbase van and 3.9 - 4.3 cubic metres for the long version; both get a maximum load width of 1229mm between the rear wheel arches and a load height of 1200/1270mm.

Toyota hasn’t released any details about engines, but the ProAce City is expected to be sold with the option of a 1.5-litre turbodiesel or a 1.2-litre turbopetrol with outputs ranging from 75PS – 130PS, with the choice of a five or six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.

Available with two or three front seats, the van comes equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen to access audio and smartphone functions, with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay (including Siri assistant) and Android Auto (including Google assistant), plus Bluetooth, and USB/aux-in connections.

High spec versions get a head-up windscreen display that shows the van’s speed, local limits and navigation directions. The driver can also keep check on their payload with a Smart Load Indicator that warns when 90 per cent of the maximum weight is reached and issues an alert when the load limit is exceeded.

Other features include a crew cab, with five seats and a specialised traction control system that will increase the ride height and allow the driver to navigate wintery roads or light off-road conditions.

The Toyota ProAce City will make its public debut at the NEC CV Show in Birmingham from 30 April - 2 May. It will go on sale in the summer and reach showrooms in late-2019.
