  Evening all, Hoping for some help and advice please.  My Mum has a Mk2 Ford Ka and the local garage I feel are taking advantage of her. Basically the problem is if she doesn't drive the car everyday then after leaving it for a few days when she starts it a light comes up on the dashboard, suggesting a fault with the electric power steering.

  Car was still under warranty and had covered 30k miles when we bought it. Soon after purchase I booked it into Ford to have this issue fixed - no joy, booked in a further 3 times with no fix (also raised a complaint with Ford UK). I then realised that the mpg was way off the quoted figures (approx. 25%). Booked car in for this to be investigated and guess what they fixed the hesitating/stalling issue!

  They told me there was no point in ordering a new shelf as the replacement would have the same problem. I told them I would write to Ford about it and drove home feeling silly for having wasted an hour of my life :(. So, has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions how to take this up with Ford? I appreciate one solution is not to touch the rear parcel shelf, but I'm troubled that Ford are selling cars in this condition.

  Since then, we have had no really significantly bad weather and the 4wd has not really been necessary. My wife has now replaced her S-Max with a Kia Sorrento so we currently have two 4wd in the household. I am inclined to replace my Hyundai with something smaller and more fuel efficient for the daily grind. I fit winter tyres and steelies from November to March and would probably do this with any future non-4wd vehicle also.
