Volkswagen Golf Mk6 1.6 TDI - Please help -- VW Golf overheating 6 Nov 2024 (Forum)
In addition, I've been losing coolant and having to top up. But the temperature rise still happens even after I've just topped up to the max mark. As you will have gathered, my technical knowledge is severely limited. So any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading and thanks for your help. -
Citroen Berlingo / Peugeot Partner - Future-proof road tax uk 26 Sep 2020 (Forum)
In the near future Im looking at upgrading my current seat ibiza (1.2 petrol) for a peugeot partner or citroen berlingo to use as a daily driver, occasional campervan and all round workhorse My budget is fairly tight at a max of around £8k Ideal specs are < 50k miles, newer than 2010 For around 6-8k Ive found a lot of 2011 - 2014 - 1.6 HDI diesel models with road tax around £145 Compared to this around 8-10k I can get 2016 - 2019 blueHDI models with £30 and lower road tax My question is: How likely is it that that standard HDI models will increase from £145 a yr tax (given the imminent rise of EV cars, restrictions on diesel / petrol etc). -

Audi A4 Avant - First oil change 11 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Told by the guy he had "done" the oil and water etc so I didnt bother to check it until 3 days ago. Silly me. The oil level was about an inch over the max on the stick so after advice today i changed the oil and filter. Never done it before but researched ALOT and all went well in the end. Until the refilling, I was told by an ex-machanic to put a 3rd in run for 10 seconds add a bit more and repeat. -
Kia Sedona diesel 2.9 TS - Sedona cutting out at high revs 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
At around 3000rpm the engine management light comes on then around 60 seconds later the car cuts out. When restarting the engine management light is out and as long as revs are kept to a max of around 2500, then the car is fine, nippy and running smoothly. It can rev to 3000 in neutral without the same happening. Local garage checked and the code is related to something in the fuel system, it says losing rail pressure but the mechanic checked and it isn't losing pressure, so it's going to cost an arm and a leg just to go through everything, to rule things out and I will be without a car for 2-3 weeks. -
Corsa D 2008 - Corsa D - chugging - idle OR constant speed?! 27 Jun 2017 (Forum)
First problem was: When driving at a constant speed of anywhere between 50-70mph on motorway (with obviously a small amount of throttle) I would get this lagging/chugging feeling, like it was struggling, until I give it more gas Second problem: The car will feel like it's about to stall doing 20mph in 3rd, or going up a slight hill in 2nd Third problem: When idle the car chugs, until I give it some gas Also, my fan only blows out at max setting (4), but I assume this is resistor/fuse related and nothing to do with the main problems here? Recent work includes (and I have full service history from 1 year ago +) - Oil filter - Air filter - Oil pressure switch - Stabiliser link bar Cheers in advance! -
Used car advice - Budget 5K 30 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, I am new to this forum. I plan to buy a used hatch or saloon with max budget of 5K. I am looking for something that is very cheap to run(Fuel efficiency/Tax/insurance/Maintenance). This is for my personal use for weekend trips and occasional city rides in the evening, I think on an average 10000 miles a year. -
VED changes April 2017 23 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Am in 2 minds myself, as all my present cars are still going well and I usually run them into the ground, before buying new replacements to get max value. The Alhambra tdi is over 18 years old and costs an very unfair 235 a year in ved, I only do about 4k a year in it now, but really attached to it and would be a shame to scrap such a versatile and economical (50 mpg) vehicle for peanuts but the annual tax/mot/repairs/maintenance is more than I spend on diesel!! -

Which of these would you suggest, or would you suggest a different car? I am willing to spend £2000 max on the car, and expect to pay between £1800 and £2500 on insurance to start with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I will bow to your greater wisdom. Apologies for the lack of paragraphs my enter key is broken. -
Mondeoondeo - best family auto estate 18 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I’m not interested in badge snobbery. I have a 20k budget max. My options so far are : Mondeo estate 163bhp Titanium X auto Insignia estate 163 bhp auto VW Passat estate 177 ps DSG Skoda Superb estate 1.8 TSI DSG Volvo XC60 D4 181 auto (dreaming…) Most of these are diesel, and whilst petrol is an option new, it seems most fleet cars that appear on the second hand market are diesel. -
Taxis in Brussels 11 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I must pay tribute though to the engineering of Mercedes Benz. The taxi SWMBO and I took to Brussels airport to catch the early flight home was driven by Mad Max who went through at least a set of brake pads, a clutch and a gearbox in his attempt to get out of rush hour Brussels nearly killing several pedestrians/cyclists in the process and a driving style that would have destroyed most other car makes. -
Audi A4 Avant - 2007 Audi A4 2.0L TDI Water Leaking From Engine? 11 May 2012 (Forum)
The next step would be to take the head off while it is all apart but the expense is starting to add up and I'm a bit concerned. The rate of water leak was from max to the warning light coming on in 300 miles. Any ideas? Are these engines prone to head gasket leaks? Anywhere else to check? The local garage I am using said that Audi main dealers give no info/help to independant garages Any advice would be appreciated. -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 04 2.5 TDi Multitronic - Turbo and EGR Problem 30 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The car has 18k on the clock since new (Dec 2004) and is mainly used on long trips (say min 50 miles, max 1500 miles), but on an in frequent basis say 2 or 3 times a month. No problems occurred at all until 15 months ago when the EGR "soot'ed" up and was replaced at a cosy of £320 by an independent. Now the Turbo has become cake'd up with sooty deposits and needs replacing at a cost of £900, again by the same independent. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.6 gti starting runing problems please help 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
started fine and drove 400yards and just cut out and had 2 push home due to no chance of it starting. when you try starting it fires up then cuts outs almost instantly. runs with accelerator fully down but with max rpm 1500. Things tried; Replaced spark plugs Cleaned throttle body and idle control valve Disconnected the ECU overnight Re-connected ECU, car ran for short distance Idle ticked over - very erratic, then stalled when accelerator pressed. -
Credit Crunch Takes its toll: Volume 15 28 May 2009 (Forum)
At that time the >>maximum loan available was 85% of the value of the property (75% if the property was a >>flat) and our application wouldn't have even been considered if we hadn't been saving >>with the mortgage provider for several years beforehand. Applications had to be made in >>person. Differences 40 yrs ago were 1) multiple of max 3 x income, no bonus/commission - 20% deposit reqd. Most who had a biggish mortgage were social class A&B - if they had money problems then their parents/ family could rally round as they had savings. 2) Most had no other loans, maybe HP on 1/2 items of furniture. 3)No expectation of foreign holidays / 2 cars etc etc 4) No credit cards - had not been invented I got a current a/c @ 20 yrs old as my parents banked there - I needed a sponsor to open the account.
