  • Average miles per annum car - Why so much attention paid to fuel consumption? 7 Oct 2018 (Forum)
So clearly, for most people the rate of depreciation per annum is far more important than studiously comparing fuel economy figures to the nearest decimal point.   As for EVs with 'free' energy,  there are a couple of two year old Tesla S cars (much the same size as a Ford Mondeo) for sale at around £47,000 having done (slightly above average) 20,000 miles.   Assuming cost price of  £72,000 that's 125p per mile!
  • Are diesel Fiestas any good? 22 Feb 2015 (Ask HJ)

  • Volvo S60 (2010 - ) - Direct injection petrol engine - a good idea? 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The other thing that strikes me is that direct injection petrol engines such as the VW FSI and Ford SCi (and probably others) have a pretty poor reputation for reliability and engine longevity, so has Volvo done something different? It's strange to think that the manufacturer with probably the greatest reputation for product longevity and long term reliability in the industry would showcase a technology that is inherently flawed.
  • Almera 1.8 Auto 9 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Many have been a bit too expensive or a bit too old, or in a colour we (my wife and I) don't like too much. I enquired about one at Available Car today and it seems that it is a Fords of Winsford (their other site). To get it to Castle Donington would mean me paying a deposit of £200 which, apparently, is refundable, if I don't like the car. To which I would ask, why ask for the £200 then?
  • Mondeo, 2.0 or 2.5? Also other questions 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Am I right? What are Fords 2.5 V6 engines like reliability wise? Would it be far more likely to turn into an expensive money sucking black hole than a 2.0 would be? Whats is the fuel economy like - I do about 5000 miles a year, mostly in town.
  • Time to treat myself 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Fair bit of poke, at least 120bhp, preferably more Some toys to keep me happy, ie elec windows, cruise control would be nice 5 doors Luxury rather than outright sportiness Group 14 insurance or less Cheap to service Reliable Not too thirsty, V6 would be nice but too expensive to run at the mo HER requirements are: Decent size boot for all the clutter that goes with kids of 4 and 2 Manual, not auto gearbox Remote central locking No more length than the 405, that's difficult enough to park! We're looking at R,S and T reg cars at places like the GTC or similar, up to about £4k (will be on finance). Likely candidates include Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, Nissan Primera, Ford Mondeo. SWMBO fell in love with an 85k mile 98S Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 16v manual with leather, air and cruise for £3899 screen price last weekend, but now it's been sold.

  • 2004 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI - 2004 Ford Focus 1.8TDCI Acceleration Issues 4 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2004 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI that is having some issues:   There's a noticeable lag between when you press the accelerator and when the car accelerates, once it starts going its fine but there's a 1-2 second lag Occasionally when you accelerate, huge amounts of black smoke pours out of the exhaust and the car has no power, 10s later it just fixes itself and carries on as normal Any ideas what the issues could be?
  • Ford Cortina - Ford Pinto Engine 4 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I was given the engine as part of a package to build a JBA Falcon, which is a kit car version of a Jaguar SS100. Donor car was a Ford Cortina. The engine had been stood in a garden on a pallet and under a tarpaulin for about 20 year. Tarp was in bits and the engine doesn’t turn over. It’d need a rebuild because of that, but question I’m looking for an answer/view on, is the probability of the block being cracked (water/ice over the 20 years) and the engine not being serviceable.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiest 08 battery keeps going flat 14 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Hi, hubby has a 2008 Ford Fiesta.  We have a problem whereby if the car is left for a week or more without using it then the battery is flat when we go to use it again.  We've replaced the stereo (as we'd previously read it could be a problem with that) and also had a new battery and alternator fitted.

I'm thinking of buying a Ford Focus automatic (broken leg means I can't drive manual any more).  The one I'm taken by has an engine management warning light on.  Should I steer very clear?  My son's focus has had this and it was the speed sensor.
