  • Mazda 6 - Recommend me a saloon or estate....Mazda 6 or ? 31 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Only requirements are something spacious with a large boot. I'll likely be looking at models from 2015/2016 with mileage under 20K. Don't mind petrol or diesel although I need to educate myself a little on buying a diesel in current climate as my previous cars have been petrol. Price point would be around 10K - 15K.

  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 19-05-2018 7 Jun 2018 (Forum)
On the Haldex clutch not figuring in the VAG/Skoda service schedule. Our 2011 Yeti's service booklet stated this requirement clearly. Our 2015 Yeti's documentation omits all mention of it. I think this has much to do with the terrible quality of Skoda UK's disorganised and badly-translated handbook and other documents, which do not improve as the years go by, plus the desire on the part of all manufacturers to play down maintenance requirements so as to pretend that cars will cost next to nothing to maintain.
  • Audi A8 - Ending A Contract Lease Early 16 Jan 2017 (Forum)
In October 2015 I took out a 3+35 lease on a new Audi A8, paying ca. £580/month for it. I expected life to continue as normal until the end of  the lease in October 2018, but unfortunately my Australian wife is homesick, and so we're going to have to emigrate to Adelaide in January 2017.
  • VW Touareg - 8 month old car new/used parts for warranty repair 28 Jun 2016 (Forum)
At such a young age, do I have to accept a re-manufactured replacement or can I insist on a new component? The car was bought after 1st October 2015 so the new Consumer Rights Act applies and I'm aware I can demand a refund if this fault occurs again after repair.
  • BMW 335D GT x drive v 330D Tourer X drive - BMW 3 series dilemma 20 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking to purchase either of the used 2015 BMW's above however the GT being a 335D has 15k and the tourer has 9k miles. Both have lots of extras and are M Sport plus. I am trying to weigh up which is the best deal as the GT is £2k more than the tourer?
  • Classic cars - No change re black numberplates on post 1972 cars 8 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hello, this is a heads up for owners of classic cars from the mid 70s. The article below - http://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/news/general-news/2015-09/classic-style-numberplates-now-legal-on-pre-1975-cars/ relies on duff info given out by DVLA.  The law about black numberplates has NOT changed.  The introduction last year of a rolling VED exemption for vehicles aged forty years plus has NOT affected the numberplate rules, despite statements to the contrary on the DVLA website (reported in various classic car magazines and online fora).
  • Alfa 156 - Insurance CAT C VIC 19 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have bought it back as part of my settlement and plan to put it back onthe road (not too worried about all the scratches and small dents, I can tidy it up over time). I am led to believe that VIC's were to be phased out on October 1st 2015 but cannot find any reference to this actually happening.    I am loathed the pay the £45 VIC charge so am prepared to wait until its finally dropped.   Does anyone know when this will be?
  • Suzuki Swift Sport - Coolant Loss 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I collected my brand new Suzuki Swift Sport on 26th Sept 2015, following a journey of 105 miles I noticed the coolant level in the expansion tank had dropped by 30mm to just above the minimum level line. I took the car to the dealership to have the coolant topped up on 1st October.
  • Merry Christmas everyone! 24 Dec 2014 (Forum)
May I wish all of you who celebrate the birth of your prophet a Merry and meaningful Christmas.  To everyone else, enjoy the festive and holiday season.  I hope that 2015 is a good year for us all. The HJ Backroom forum is a model of decorum and restrain compared to other fora I frequent.  We have over the last year drifted occasionally towards intemperate or impatient language  (I know I have), so I will make an effort to restrain myself and hope everyone agrees with that sentiment.

  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 55p Plate DPF Refil 2 May 2012 (Forum)
Has anyone actually carried out this procedure with any success, the car is past its warranty so paying Ford to do anything goes against the grain completely. (Ford - Fixed Or Repaired Daily)
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 - Servicing 18 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Car is coming up to 3 years old with 21k miles so needs MOT and service to comply with Ford warranty.  Is it essential (or advisable) to use a Ford main dealer especially as the 3 year warranty is due to expire. I ask this as I'm not too happy with the attitude of the local Ford dealer (from whom we bought the car 8 months ago), not to mention the price quoted which is double that of a local independent.
