Volkswagen Passat 1.9 2006 - Rebuild vw gearbox or replace it? 18 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Hi I got vw 2006 1.9, 5 gears(bkc engine) its got some issue with gearbox before, some strange noise from it coming, check oil level and its been only 500 grams in it instead of 1.9l. Now I know its internal bearings making noise, as advised. So I wondering it's better to change gearbox to second hand or rebuild the same one? -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 05 1.0 Timing chain 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
My daughter's car was in the main dealers for a recall. He said her timing chain was noisy. I took it to my local garage and he said an engine flush/oil/filter change might fix it. The last service was about 11 months ago. It has only done 19,000 miles and about 4000 miles in the last year. Cheers Shug. {guessing you meant 1.0 for engine cc?} -
Renault Scenic - Renault Scenic 1.5 dci Brake problem 15 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I helped my dad change the front brake pads on his Scenic and after we had finished, we tested it and found the brake pedal had become spongey. We completely bled the system so it now has nothing but fresh oil in it and it is still spongey. -
Honda AccordJazz CVT - CVT gearbox 'hunts' 25 Mar 2011 (Forum)
The gearbox on my wife's 2002 Jazz auto (CVT) with 32k miles has started 'hunting' . Driving at a steady 30 or so, it slows down, then picks back up as though it is changing down a gear, then back up. The gearbox oil has recently been topped up with the correct fluid (it was very low, apparently). Car has been serviced annually by a Honda dealer but an independent dealer suggests the problem might be the gearbox on its last legs. -
Toyota Aygo+D - Toyota Aygo Diesel 19 Nov 2010 (Forum)
My wife has bought a used Toyota Aygo 1.4 Diesel. I need to change the oil and cannot find where the filter is located. Haynes do not do a book for this car and without a manual, I am lost. This is the first car I have ever had to service which does not have a Haynes book. -
Chrysler 300C (2005 - ) - 08 3.0 1 year old car - not used - service immedia 11 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I'm guessing it was sitting in a dealership or a field for that length of time. It seems to run nicely but should I have it serviced now - change the oil , flter etc? Or will it be fine until its first service is due? Thanks for any help -
Vauxhall - What's gone wrong with Vauxhall cars ? 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
hi just been looking at the technical forum and posts about vauxhall clutch judder on astra's. couple this with the corsa's camshaft snapping makes me wonder what happend at vauxhall. how long have they been building cars, surely by now clutches and camshafts should present no problems other than wear and tear, lack of oil changes and a heavy left foot. is it down to penny pinching on the spec of these items or bad design certainly puts me off getting a vauxhall -
BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - 1997 1.7 Fully synth pointless on beemer ? 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Is it pointless using fully synt engine oil on a high mileage bmw 318 diesel? The car has 100k plus and runs well.....I changed it when I bought it with some duckhams semi(Just to be safe)......and car seems ok. Would castrol magnatec be ok? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 ticking noise - tappets? 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
SWMBO's astra has developed a ticking noise, plainly audible from inside the car at low speed under load, just audible at motorway speed. Her tame mechanic says its the tappets and all he'd do would be change the oil and filter, so i've done that anyway and there is no difference. Any other suggestions as to the cause and solution, or is it time to swap it in ? -
Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 1.9TDi - variable servicing 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I would like to keep the car on variable servicing but dont like the high costs of the main dealer, whilst i can change oils and filters and check belts i need to acess the OBC? port to stay on variable servicing. Is there anyone out there selling the appropriate cable and software to do this. -
Audi A8 (1994 - 2003) - 1997 - Automatic Gearbox specialist -- Midlands?? 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend any of the above please? I would like to get a so called 'sealed for life' box serviced with oil and filter change. As I'm sure many know, Audi main dealers will not touch these unless something has gone wrong (which it hasn't..) and so I'd rather use a specialist. THanks all. {added in the year from a forum search of a previous post of yours} -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2004 1.4 16v - throttle delay 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
This happens regardless of the temperature of the engine. I also have to add that this car has never changed anything but oil, hasnt done the mileage for anything more. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks in advance, cheers -

Vauxhall Brava Gearbox Screech 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My N reg Brava (Isusu Rodeo) has developed a loud screech when under load. It happens in all gears and the noise seems to be coming from the gearbox. I've tried changing the oil, but this has had little effect. I've had a couple of experts look at it and they are mystified. It seems worse in third gear. Apparently similar faults have appeared on early Isusu Troopers, which use a similar gearbox. -
Vectra 2002 Temperature 23 Jan 2007 (Forum)
No obvious signs of leak or of mayonaise in the oil, so hoping head gasket is ok. Mileage is 66,000 and serviced per schedule by the way. Any ideas please? -
Vectra C - Noise 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My 2004 Sri has developed a strange noise after its 2nd service at 32K miles. When driving at lower speeds in higher gears (35mph in 4th) so the revs are low, there is noise that sounds like a "budgie".It sounds "sort of" like a chirping noise.Possibly an air leak but where should I look (or do I put it back to the Dealer) Air Filter Pollen filter Oil and filter Fuel Filter were among the items changed, but this could be a "herring rouge" Any ideas welcome -
Hard starting scooter if left for 3 days 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have a 125 honda scooter (automatic). It has been serviced since new (plugs and oil always changed frequently). It seems to start first time in all weathers if it is used daily, which I use to work. There are no obvious signs of engine wear or anything like that. However, if I leave it for a few days, it takes a few attempts to get it started. -
civic type-R gearbox 12 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'd like to know if anybody with a Honda Civic Type-R, has trouble selecting 1st and 2nd in the cold weather, especially in the mornings? I had the engine oil changed a thousand miles ago to Castrol SLX 0W-30 but doubt if this would have anything to do with gear selection!! Also, big up Cirencester Tyre and Exhaust Co for their 4-wheel laser tracking service.
