  • Are diesels truly dead? 25 Jan 2021 (Forum)
More so, when people are not commuting long, especially the situation now, car will be used for short journeys which is bad for DPF. So why one would go for diesel - unless having specific needs like large 4x4 in farms etc.?
  • 2006 Kia Carens Diesel 27 Dec 2019 (Forum)
My question is would this car with a diesel engine be ok for a daily commute round trip of 15 miles or do you think the DPF would get clogged in the long run? Thanks as always for your help peeps and enjoy the rest of your Christmas!! :)
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 07-05-2016 Part 2 3 Apr 2019 (Forum)
It only had 5700 miles on the clock. I have had it 6 weeks and done 800 miles in it mostly short journeys. The DPF light flashed on briefly last week so i took it on the dual carriageway for 30 mins doing 4th gear at 60mph which cleared the light. Going to start using quality diesel and an additive but now im worried about short journey's.
  • Volkswagen Passat B5 Highline 2.0TDI CR 140 - Passat 2.0TDI CR - Burning Smell 12 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Also the car is producing a burnt ceramic smell only starting from cold when the outside temperture is below 4C. Has anyone else had this. Been wondering if there is a problem with the DPF. Smell was also there before the car went in for the recent repairs.
  • Subaru Forester - Fuel Additives 7 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I just wondered if there is a reason for this as my previous car was a nissan xtrail and I used to add millers eco to the fuel, I did not add this for extra power it was for keeping fuel system clean which at mot time mechanic commented that  emmisions were extremely low and dpf light hardly ever came on whilst using this. So for these reasons I would like to use in the subaru but just wondered why they state no additives to be used, thanks in advance, Terry
  • Audi A3 - High mileage petrol Audi - Mercedes 20 Aug 2015 (Forum)
on further research came to know that the Euro 5 diesels with high mileage might mean that  you could be looking at big bucks to replace the EGR, the DPF, the injectors, the glowplugs and maybe the turbo, so could set you back £5k. What about high mileage petrols are they safe to buy ? Seems like 2009 A3 with 110K mileage I could easily find
  • Engine size Nissan QQ 17 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Had this engine in a Micra a much lighter car and was not impressed with its ,poke, A qq is much heavier than a Micra so I do not see any improvement in performance of even keeping the status quo of the 1.5.cc Can any current owner of the 1.2.QQ assure me that it has .getupand go,? Would like the 1.6. diesel but short runs I fear would lead me into conflict with the DPF. hfp
  • C3 Picasso or Kangoo - Newish diesel for me? 5 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I've been looking to buy a car up to 5 years old .. Diesel (cheaper tax reasons) But I've been told the DPF on diesels isn't for me .. I will literally drive the car for about 10 mins  day (loading up parcels to take to the PO literally 4 minute drive away) ... weekends I would use it for longer trips, days out etc ... and only about 3 times a year to load up with camping stuff and go on long journeys..
  • Volvo S40/V40 - Is Volvo S40 a Volvo ? 8 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I did not know it was a Peugot engine - which I've recently heard has potential problems.  Having just spent last year £1,000 on new DPF and last week £1,300 on new clutch, dmf and one wheel bearings I would prefer to keep the car a while.  However, are there other possible expensive problems to avoid by changing cars ? Also is the S40 a complete Volvo - love the comfort ?
  • Vectra C 2.2 DTi, 2003 - Diesel particulate filter 28 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I don't use this car very much any more - it's more like a van for when I need to buy something dirty or heavy and so it probably only does about 2000 miles a year - if that. I think that the problem might be the DPF but don't really know if this is likely. Can anybody help and is the replacement a DIY job? Cheers
  • Are Diesel Owners In For A Rise in VED? 3 May 2014 (Forum)
More eco stuff in the Mail today, whilst it may be true, is this just another ruse to get older diesel vehicles off the road and drivers into new vehicles to boost the economy ? Should we expect a rise in VED for older pre DPF diesels, of which many are long lasting and ecomonic. Maybe its the only way to part us from our PD's ? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2617425/The-deadly-diesel-deception-We-bullied-buying-diesel-cars-help-fight-global-warming-Now-experts-say-green-fuel-killing-thousands-us.html
