Do I change it now or get it done at MOT time later this year? Does the MOT tester bounce the corners to tell if its ok or do they perform a more 'scientific test'.

  • Xsara gearchange lumpy 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I am, somewhat embarrassingly, comparing it to a 2007 Ford Transit which is wonderful to drive. Would changing the oil in the gearbox help? Likewise, are there any accessible bits or the selector mechanism I can lubricate? Cheers, David.
  • First MOT 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Can't believe how quickly it has come around :-( I was wondering if there's anything I could do to prepare it for the diesel emisions test. I was thinking perhaps of taking it for a hard drive the night before. Do you think changing the oil might help? What about a fuel additive? And do the garages still rev the living daylights out of the poor engine to test it? Thanks

  • Customer satisfaction 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have used Kwik-Fit on a couple of occaisions for oil changes,in the spring and just last week. On the second time the price was almost half the price of the first! On both occaisions the staff were curteous and fitters highly competant. What did surprise me was that both times within a day or so I had a phone call asking about the service I had received.
  • Astra G 1.6 16v Engine Noises 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The engine on my astra g 1.6 16v estate has started to make a horrible rattling, sounds more like a diesel than a petrol. It's done 76000 miles, full vauxhall service and belt change 3000 miles ago, oil etc fine, no warning lights on. Any body got any ideas before I get stung for a huge bill?

  • 2001 Astra 1.7 Dti coolant level drop 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
After changing the engine oil I performed the usual checks and noticed that the coolant level had dropped by 1.5 inches below the COLD level on the coolant reservoir. I topped it up to the correct level and two days later it has fallen again by about 1 inch.
  • Fietsa TDCI mk6 running tips req. 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My first diesel very impressed. Would like to know whether I follow same advice as for petrol in regards to oil changes(every 6k), and using Shell or Texaco for fillups?? Any one tried BP ultimate? Is it worth the extra? Also a friend of mine recommends putting a K&N filter kit on to improve performance and economy.
  • Peugeot 406 warning light 5 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I appears to look like the outline of an engine and is to the right of the ignition (battery) light. Unfortunately the Haynes manual does not help. It is due for an oil change but I have never seen this light before previous services. Your help would be very much appreciated before I contact a Peogeot dealer
  • vw transporter 13 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Does anyone have any advice regarding the choice of engines available - i'm thinking of a 2.5 tdi or 2.4 diesel with approx 80-100k mls (is the 1.9td underpowerded, considering i'll be doing a fair bit of motorway miles?). Are there any realiabilty issues with these engines/vans apart from regular oil&filter changes and cam belt replacement. Thanks, Steve
  • 2019 Peugeot 2008 - Peugeot unsatisfactory design no.2 -the sump plug. 28 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Some here may remember my saga of the irremovable Peugeot wheel locking bolt, renowned (and perhaps welcomed) in the trade as sometimes needing welding expertise to extract.  (Memo to Peugeot - learn from Ford).   After its recent oil change, I noticed a small circle of oil on the ground under the sump - so I tightened the plug a bit more.  No luck, so I drained the oil into a clean container for reuse and inspected the offending plug.
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 hdi (fap) model lacks low end power 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It is a 2002 model with the stupid fap system. It has had new fap fluid, filter and deisel filter when we bought it and i have just changed oil oil filter and air filter. The symptoms seem to be worse when the outside temperature is cold. When we purchased the car we were bombing about in it and ws getting 40ish mpg out of it now with the most careful of driving we can only get around 29mpg and it is really sluggish until you get the revs up.

The rear end is perfect nothing wrong on the back, i have undone all the metal pipes while engine running and they seem to be unblocked and the flush oil is coming through ok. As you can tell i am a little lost on this by now and citreon just say its the oil that need replacing, when i separated the rack i pushed all the dirty oil back in the system but even with this flush there is no improvement. can any one help matt
  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 2001/1.4 16v/Sump plug allen key size?/Oil rating 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
My grandma used to own the car, that= driving round her town at 25mph in 5th gear!! I am planning an oil change and want to use 5w/40 fully synthetic, this seems to be the best mix, high enough as recommened by Renault to protect the engine when hot and low enough to cause the minimum amount of wear when starting, So basically is it safe (ie not too thin), to use a 5w/40 fully synthetic?
