How long will it last...? 2 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I drive 500 miles a week, cruise at 60 mph @ 2200 rpm along fast A-roads only (no town driving), never thrash from cold, get 78.5 MPG every tankfull, change oil+filter every (semi-synthetic) 5000 miles. Full Seat history +cambelt changes. How long do you think these components will last based on the above info?? -Fuel Pump -Clutch -Alternator -Water Pump -Engine overall -

Dacia Duster - Is an engine flush beneficial? 18 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Due for first service in a few weeks and main dealer tried to get me to spend an extra £27 having the engine flushed as part of the oil change. Is this necessary on a one year old car, or just another money maker for the dealer? -

Servicing..is it a rip off.. 6 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I recently went in to get my 20,000 mile (Diesel)service done at my local Pug dealer and came out for a bill of £230...for basically an oil change. Why does it cost so much for so little (I even had to ask nicely to get my tyres rotated). Is it me or is it just a dealer rip off? -
fiat tipo turbo diesel bad mileage 14 Apr 2002 (Forum)
My car is constantly chucking out a cloud of dark grey/black smoke from the exhaust. The fuel and air filters have been changed recently and it doesn't use oil or water so I assume this is due to overfuelling??? Any ideas as to how I could adjust this myself???? -
Amazing Astra 24 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Reading the latest news story makes me wonder what the service history of this car looks like. Has it had oil changes every 5,000 miles using Miller's or similar. Or has it had stuff Barry Mead picks up at the local spares shop for £2.99 a gallon? Whatever the secret is of this cars long life, it would be educational. -
pattern parts 10 Dec 2000 (Forum)
My car is a 91 1.6 Astra which has covered 76000 miles. I change the oil regularly and was wondering what the difference is between a filter costing £2 from a local motor factor and either a champian filter from Halfords or GM from Vaxhaull. As the filter is only on the car about 3 months would it make any difference? -
Berlingo Gearbox Whine & Wear - Berlingo Gearbox Whine & Wear 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Has come out the garage, and it now has a gearbox whine in 1st-5th, and its very hard to get into the gears with clutch fully depressed. Is now back in garage, they have charged me for gearbox oil, but tech said he didn't re-new it, juts put old lot back in. The gears selected fine and made no noise at all before clutch change, in fact the box was absolutly fine. Garage has drained oil out for 2nd time and has now found metal filings in the oil. -
Nissan Almera Tino - Check Engine Light - what is it...? - FIXED 27 Jul 2014 (Forum)
They said they've worked on a LOT of 1.8 petrol engines with stretched cam chains.. Tends to be on Primeras. They say that the problem occurs when the vehicles have not had regular oil changes. Old oil carbonises problems occur. I should also say that my car has gone from using 0.5l of oil per 5,000 miles to 1 litre per 3,000. Age I think - emissions are fine (sailed through its MoT in January) -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W210 (1995 - 2002) - 98 3.0TD Oil cooler & new fan for caravan towing? 30 May 2008 (Forum)
For about two years now I've been towing a large caravan (2-axle 1241 kg) with my 99 Audi A4 2.5TDi, with no real problems. Changed to a lovely 98 E-Class estate auto with a 3000TD engine, very well kept. Now I've been given some advice that Mercedes Auto trans. cars need to have an oil cooler for the gearbox fitted and an upgraded fan, maybe even a new radiator, in order to tow large caravans. -
Buyer cancelling cheque? 17 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I gave them all the paperwork I have including receipts for the previous oil change (In 2002). I am worried they may now cancel the cheque, and try and return the car to me (assuming they get it started). Can anyone advise me what my (and their) rights are. I'm delighted to have sold it and really don't want it back. -
VW Polo GTI - Used car problems - help with rejecting car 28 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Tons of evidence out there of people having engine replacements under warranty, oil consumption tests, piston ring changes etc etc. My polo has no record of any of this work being carried out by VW. It has 4 previous owners and the service book shows evidence of multiple oil changes close together before then being part exchanged. -
Toyota Landcruiser LC4 - Toyota Landcruiser engine failure 19 Apr 2013 (Forum)
4 weeks ago the engine suffered a serious failure, whilst travelling at about 70mph it suddenly lost all power, the oil light came on and it rattled big time! I had to get it recovered back to my local Toyota agent who took the engine out and stripped it down. The cause was found to be the copper sealing washers under the injectors, 3 had been letting combustion gases past the seal and so contaminating the oil and over a period of time the carbon had built up on the gauze oil pick up in the sump to the extent that oil could no longer pass through it thus causing a partial seizure. -
