  • Maintaining infrequently-used Citroen ZX 20 May 2010 (Forum)
Service & usage history ----------------------- 1st owner (to 3y/16500m): Citroen serviced, unknown usage (Plymouth based). 2nd owner (to 5.5y/33000m): incomplete SH, full service at 30000m. Used in London and to Devon. Me: follow Citroen low-mileage service schedule (1y oil, 2y coolant & brake fluid, 4y plugs, air & fuel filters) plus the odd extra oil change.
  • Service with a sneer 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
When I returned the fitter was closing the bonnet, so thinking the job was done I wandered over. I was then informed that they could not change the oil because someone had rounded the drain plug nut. On seeing my raised eybrows the guy told me that they did not have a socket that would grip it, and when i suggested a mole grip he cocked a deaf 'un.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 XSi Phase 1 has my head gasket gone? 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Until the first time I put my foot down. A few hundred miles later and it seems to have sealed up so I start the next job. an oil leak, seemingly coming from the rocker gasket. it's running down by the front left engine mounting (as you stand at the front of the car). Gasket changed and drive away, still leaking and now there's white emulsion on the oil filler cap. not only that it's pushing oil up through the spark plug threads.
  • VW Passat 3c2 1.9tdi BXE (PD) - Engine rebuild break-in oil query 24 May 2016 (Forum)
I also plan on installing a new kolbenschmidt camshaft (incl. lifters) as lobes are worn on my own head. (previous owner may have used incorrect oil) I will be using assembly lube along the way also. Now to my query that some of you may have experience with. As I'm replacing rings etc. I will have to run-in the engine for the first couple of hundred miles or and complete a number of oil changes.
  • Chevrolet Aveo - Coolant Loss, Engine light, Warranty etc 26 Dec 2015 (Forum)
He dismissed this saying it had been pressure tested and was made of metal and never went wrong  He then informed me the oil and oil filter hadn't been changed during last service. Checked myself to find pollen filter hadn't been changed either. Sorted all that myself. So now my 5 year warranty might be in question!? Another fight for another day.
  • Peugeot 207 - Stalling when Cold 10 Nov 2022 (Forum)
When it heats up there is no issue at all so it only happens when it is cold! Since I am experiencing it I have had: oil + oil filter changed thermostat changed as it was stuck open and thought this was the issue, tried premium unleaded from other petrol stations in case I had bad petrol in it but still seems to happen!
  • Corsa C twinport - Oil leak Mystery 29 Jul 2018 (Forum)

  • Citroen C4 - Stop oil pressure low, just had head gasket repair 20 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have a Citroen c4 56 plate 77k miles on the clock. I had a blown head gasket as my oil was leaking into the coolant. Had this repaired at the garage and they also changed the cam belt. 2 days later, covering only 50 miles on short distances the car started cutting out when the engine got hot and was low revs (at traffic light for example).
  • GOLF 2L MARK4 GTI - CUTTING OUT WHEN SLOWING OR STOPPING 5 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hi everyone My golf keeps cutting out when i slow or stop and is very lumpy when idling and sometimes also cuts out when idling i have replaced within the last month as follows spark plugs and leads, oil and filter, i cleaned the throttle butterfly, air mass meter, collant temp sender, and both lambda sensors (very expensive) this just started yesterday after i changed the leads again because i felt like there was a miss and i brought the last set of leads of ebay (never agan) and sometimes when i turn a corner the oil pressure warning light comes on plus i was getting a clicking from the engine somewhere i read this could be that the oil needed topping up so i did and the clicking went and also the warning light stop coming on but i keeps happening so i top up and stops again (bit worried about this as there is not an oil leak anywhere) please can anybody help me with any of these problems Thanks
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.4 timing marks 3 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi ive just changed my waterpump on my Rover 214si N reg and as far as im aware ive lined all the timing marks up correctly ie:exhauste pully pointing towards inlet pully and locked them in place with locking tool, ive also lined flywheel pully up with the oil pump marking which is about 1 ocklock as you look at the engine in the standing position there are also some other marks on the plastic cover and one of them says TDC my question is to i use the TDC marks to time up my car to run smoothly or is it the oil pump mark i should use to time my car up beacause ive used the oil pump mark and lined both my cams up properly and my car runs erratically ?.
  • red warning light - pull over or foot on the gas? 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Have a read/watch video here: http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/chapter-18-environmental-data The jist of it is that we are fast using up our easy to get resources (oil, minerals etc) and as these resources get ever harder (or require more energy to extract) the world as we know it will change. I think many people do not realise that the only reason we have the 'modern world' is down to the cheap and easy energy given to us by natural gas and oil reserves.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 (Y), 1.8 TDDi Ghia 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
So my question is - is it normal for a turbo to expel used oil slightly or is that B.S. to get the sale done? If not, then what do I need to ask is done on the car before the money changes hands? Franchised dealer, car in reasonable nick, done around 57k miles.
  • Astra 1.7TD - valve rocker thingy broken 11 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Long story behind this one! My sister forgot to put the oil filler cap back on her 1996 GM 1.7 diesel, and consequently the oil drained out and the car overheated and stopped on a steep hill. Trailered home where I refilled with fresh oil and surprisingly, it ran fine, although a bit tappetty.
  • Honda Civic - Honda servicing plan 6 Feb 2016 (Forum)
What happens is the dealer sells you a sevice deal that indicates annual/12,500 services including oil but when you go for a service they only do what the onboard computer says - excluding oil if the computer says no. In my case it would have meant a return to the garage in about 4 months for oil. Not convenient and taking me to 16 month oil change.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Tapping noise from under the bonnet ?? 28 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Also I have posted other questions concerning an oil change I had done last November when they put 10w-40 oil in. Like I said I went back the following day and they supposedly put the correct 5w30 oil in. If they had been dishonest and not done what I requested could this have caused the noise I have now i.e. to do with the thicker 10w40 oil and the tappets issue ?
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Golf TDI PD 100bhp engine issue/oil 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I am really concerned now that this service may have caused the intial problem, but I need to check with the VW specialist and also could this have caused the wear on the cylinder?? If so do you think the large company should change my oil to the correct stuff for free?
  • Slk 250 - Servicing, not much seems to be done? 23 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I am due amajor service next month and reading through various lists of work to be done most of it seems to be..apart from oil and filter change...check this, check that with not much actually done. What do others think about servicing regimes?
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 Tdci 130 bhp - Heat exchanger water pipe 28 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Anyone changed the heat exchanger water pipe that goes from the water pump to the heat exchanger itself (by the oil filter) ? Not the return that goes into the rad. Wondered how difficult it is. I've got a leak !
  • Audi Service Interval 16 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The 2001 Audi A4 is a clever car it tells on the display(spanner icon) the time/miles to its next service. But how does it know when oil, filters, brake fluid etc., have been changed? And what does it mean when the display shows 'dashes' for time and miles not any figures? Brian
