  • Travelling to Brittany 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi to you all, We are travelling to Lorient in southern Brittany this coming Saturday the 4th. Does any one have experiance of driving in France on what may be one of the busiest days of the year for French traffic? Our ferry arrives in Calais at 10.30am French time. I have printed out a ViaMichelin route which caculates the 435 mile journey to take 6hr 30mins with no breaks using mainly toll motorways.
  • Cannonball Run 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Just been watching French TV (LCI news channel) and had a giggle at two English lads stopped by the Gendarmes near Bethune,France. They got caught at 190 and 250 Km/h in a Ferrari Modena and Porsche 911 during an organised "Cannonball Run" from the UK to Italy. The LCI chain claims that the Kent Police tipped-off the Gendarmes who set-up the speed traps with helicopter back-up.
  • Europe and spare tyres 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Afternoon all, I'll probably regret asking a question about Europe, but... I'm planning on going down to Europe for two weeks in the summer, mainly France, but possibly Austria, Germany, Swizerland and Italy as well. I've just read on another thread that in Spain, it's law that you have a spare tyre. Is this true in any other countries? I've got an Accord, and don't have a spare tyre, just a stupid foam inflator thing, so could be a bit of a problem.
  • I have a question Volume 53 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It works but I wish to change some parmeters None of the Sharp sites appear to list it. It is marked as made in france and certified for Irish Approval. All proper Sharp labels on it! pmh (was peter)
  • Off on my french hols 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
As is customary for this time of year I was wondering if any BRs had any new advice on driving through France this year. We are heading down to Beziers via Beaune from Calais via A6,A7 & A9. Anybody got any new tips from their recent journeys (or good repeat ones from last year - when similiar questions were asked).
  • Cross Channel Ferry Prices Slashed 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Went to book a day-trip to France and notice that all cross channel comapnies on the Dover Calais route have slashed their prices. Aparantley this follows a move by Eurotunnel. For example we booked in January for a 17 day trip in August and were happy with the quote of £162.
  • Puncture Repaired Tyre 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My question is though - is the repaired tyre, which is now on the front, safe to use for an extended drive? I am due to drive through France next week, covering about 1500 motorway miles in 3 days - (return journey!) The tread on the tyres are fine, but I was just wondering whether other BRs would get new fronts fitted before this drive.
  • Air Con recharge 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Think it was last done at a service in 2001 before I had it. Just interested to know as we're taking it to south of france next week and don't want to be left boiling. Also note that Audi no longer check the system as part of routine servicing. Got a leaflet through form the dealer offering a check up and re-gas at an 'unbeatable' £99.
  • Van purchase advice 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Odd question for you. I've got to get a transit size van load of stuff from Bristol to near Toulouse (SW France)and rather than renting one and having to drive it back and fly out (we're moving there) I'm thinking of buying a very cheap van and scraping it when I get there. I was thinking a old Renault Traffic or similar - it will need one month MOT and Tax and as long as it has one last journey in it I'll buy it.
  • Driven 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Other bloke not quite so arrogantly "fifth-form cool". Intellegent coverage of a real journey to The South of France in affordable yet attractive cars. Well done! How refreshing! RIP Top Gear? Has it finally disappeared up its own tailpipe? rg
  • Strange French Custom 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I've been told that this is to keep the windscreen intact, but can it possibly serve any purpose? Do any other nationalities do this? Incidentally, I lived in France for a while and the vast majority of drivers did this, young and old (and front seat passengers), so it's not based on the habits of one or two people. I've never seen a Brit do it. Can anyone enlighten me?
  • Citroen C3 - advice re old Citroen C3 13 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I have a 2006 Citroen C3 that I like very much - it's been brilliant since I bought it 5 years ago and needed no repairs until it broke down this week in France with a broken clutch. I'm being quoted 950 euros for the clutch to be repaired there, which is about £800. The car is only worth about £700, so the insurance won't cover recovering it to the UK.
  • Any - Yet another road pricing scheme announced 2 Jan 2023 (Forum)
"The city of Lille in northern France has voted in favour of an ‘écobonus’ incentive aimed at encouraging drivers to avoid certain roads at rush hour.  Drivers will be able to earn up to €80 a month through a ‘péage positif’ if they help to reduce the bottlenecks on the A1 and A23.
  • Mazda 3 2017 - Spare Wheel 15 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We have our car through Motability and have booked a holiday to France even got our European breakdown cover through the RAC at no extra charge, all good so far.  However having read the book the RAC sends through it says that if you have a puncture and there is space for a spare wheel and no spare wheel present then they will not assist.
  • Delivering an untaxed car to mainland Europe 10 Jul 2017 (Forum)
The problem I have is that the vehicle is not taxed. Obviously my trade plates will enable me to get as far as the Eurotunnel but once I am in France I’m not sure how I stand with regards to tax… Can anyone advise?    Ps. I will have insurance and the vehicle is roadworthy with a full MOT so these things will not be an issue – it’s just the tax I’m concerned about.
  • Ford C-MAX - Ford C Max TDCi Injector Failure 25 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Local Ford workshop replaced Injector 3, and all four seals. Injector 4 failed again three weeks ago and was replaced by Renault workshop in France. Car continues to cut to limp mode with 'Engine Malfunction', Ford workshop now recommending other two Injector valve replacements based on diagnostics. Is it likely that when one Injector fails, the other three will fail in quick succession?
  • SEAT Alhambra 2005 1.9 TDI - OBD2 plug has power but not communicating. 2 May 2014 (Forum)
Need some help on this one. I bought a code scanner to check for any faults before we travel across France. The scanner gets power from the car but displays Link Error. I've been to a garage and they have the same. Not communicating. Fuses have been checked and the plug seems ok. Everything on the Car works well.
  • Renault Megane 1.9dci 2004 - Injector Fault 7 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hello, Yesterday on the motorway in France, my Megane started puffing a blue smoke out of the exhaust. About a mile later the on board computer appeared with the warning injector fault and to stop immediately. I pulled over onto the hard shoulder and there noticed a lot of smoke and heat coming from the engine bay and the car would not start, and hasn't since.
  • Skoda Octavia II - Pot holes and speed bumps 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
In particular the bump by Furniture Village in Southampton West Quay :-) Or any other makes to consider of that ilk. Budget of up to 8K , used mainly for lugging kids around, camping trips so S of France and several 600 mile round trips to Yorkshire. Parking quite tight in our street so nothing too long, and cheap to fix when someone karate kicks the wing mirror off. Thanks
  • Renault Zoe name causes uproar. 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm pretty flummoxed by this one..... From Autocar... "Renault's decision to call its electric supermini Zoe has caused uproar in France. "Press reports suggest parents of children named Zoe are reported to have flooded the company with complaints and launched online petitions demanding the name be changed." "Our daughters have a beautiful first name that must not be associated with a car, so let us unite to bring pressure on a multinational which is going to destroy this pretty name for a children," says a petition launched by Sebastien Mortreus, from Auby."
