  • 'Stuck' with an expensive car 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
With CR diesels, you also have the nagging worry that the previous owner got rid after a slight mis-fuelling, or skimped on the oil changes etc. I got a large estate as my boss/colleague was convinced that we needed one to transport the kit we?re using around the place. We don?t, as it happens, very annoying as a new Golf would have been £190 a month less, and would have done 10 mpg more.
  • Accord Diesel Tourer 14k report 27 Jun 2006 (Forum)
s loads of torque from about 1500 RPM, and almost no turbo lag from about 2000. Coupled with long gearing, back roads need nothing more than an occasional change from third to fourth to make extremely fast progress. The steering is very nicely weighted, with plenty of feedback and good feel, although with the 17? tyres this goes a bit toward tramlining. I don?
  • Should I spend £2000 on repairs for my Volkswagen Golf or trade it in for a new Kia Picanto? 5 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
I bought a 2002 Volkswagen Golf automatic in June 2006 for £6500. Milage was only 16,000. I used it for the last four years and added 20,000 miles on it,...
  • Where do I stand legally with a dealer I bought a classic car from? 3 Sep 2019 (Ask HJ)
I bought a 1991 Roller from a dealer a couple of hours or so journey from me. On test drive the aircon was not blowing cold, so the dealer said he'd get...
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - What are my rights after buying a car privately? 15 Oct 2013 (Forum)
What I really need to know is do I stand a chance in court against these people or am I wasting my time. Its 2013 and trading rules have changed enough that "sold as seen" no longer holds ground in the sale of a car and only the description counts. I've been quoted £1300 repair bills. :-( Thank you for reading. Darrell.
  • from Catherine about my motorbike course 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Had his Harley mate Greg from Abilene Texas (both retired) over and 18 oz BBQ steaks they both cooked up on the porch and their ZZ Top records n Lone Star beer so i got the PC to myself for a change (my laptop is busted, like my leg LOL). These guys are retired and talk Middle East stuff from the good old oil days of the 1970's and that's all they do when they aren't riding. This was the Lady Safety Course, girl bikers only.
  • Accident management company wants to declare my car a write off 5 Feb 2014 (Ask HJ)
A few weeks ago my wife was driving very slowly in a queue of traffic on the A49, when a driver came out of a service road and collided with the front...
  • Mazda Mazda 3 (2004 - 2009) - Piston-Slap Issue, Katano 1,600cc Petrol. 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Within a week of delivery, the car developed a loud, metallic knock when started from cold, which I thought was akin to big or small-end knock. I requested that the car be changed or my money refunded. However, the garage Technicians tested and persistently denied any problem, stating that the noise was 'normal' for a Mazda-3. I am aware that the 1,600cc engine used across the range can rattle, but the hammer on our car is entirely different and is a distinct knock, especially when pulling away cold (i.e. engine loaded).
  • Mercedes-Benz B-Class - B class review 6 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The car has used no oil and is due a service after 1 year or 15,000 miles whichever comes first.   The vehicle is fitted with Michelin energy saver tyres which are a harder compound and after almost 9,000 miles the fronts still have 6mm left on them.
  • Warning for Rattle: how to do it, how not to do it 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Herb Broadway didn't sound too keen on the Plymouth so I took it to a garage in Hopewell, near Princeton, and explained its history. It had not been allowed to get really hot or short of water. It had used no oil whatsoever, not a drop, in 8,000 miles, and the oil had stayed clean and golden. Everything worked and the body was still undamaged. During its enforced 50-limit it had been remarkably economical, getting well over 25 miles out of a niggardly American gallon.
  • BMW 3-Series E91 Touring (2005 - ) - 320d : ownership report 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Well, there was nothing wrong with the Audi A4 Avant 2.0 FSI Sport that preceded it, apart from 50,000 miles and just over three years? ownership ? I fancied a change. So that ruled out another A4, even though the facelift model is a significant improvement over the 03/03 model I had. So that left a Mercedes C Class or a BMW 3 ? everything else was ruled out by personal preference and prejudice; German ?
  • Buying a car from Far Far Away 6 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I also grabbed a copy of a Land Rover Mag that happened to have a report about what to look for in a used Discovery TD5! The journey involved 2 changes. Whilst waiting for my 2nd connection I contacted Aviva who were doing the free 7 days insurance, and arranged cover. I could have done this from his office but I was worried about taking up too much of his time.
  • Ford Transit - Help with independent dealer 21 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I do accept this, as by law the dealer should be given the chance to rectify the fault, but the van should not have been sold to me in this dangerous condition, and I told him I couldn't trust him to do a proper job, considering he didn't even bother checking something as simple as the lights on the vehicle and he couldn't answer my question when I asked him why he sold me this van in this dangerous condition, and that it's not roadworthy and not fit for purpose. On top of this there was also a broken oil pressure switch, which the garage quickly changed, but again, it's something else that should have been done prior to sale. Hoping that was the end of it, I took the £300 hit for the repairs (plus the £100 for the inspection), wanting to put it all behind me, and concentrate on getting the van ready so I can get back to work and earning - I hadn't worked since getting the van as there was still a lot to do, and I took everything out of the Clio to have it valeted ready to sell on.
