Audi A6 1.9 tdi 2001 - Juddering when accelerating from low gears 30 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Normally we would stop the car, turn off engine wait 5-10 seconds and re-start and the judder would stop. I was told it could be that the car hadn't been serviced for a while and that an oil filter change may resolve it. I took it for a service and was advised that there was a misfire and to get it to Audo for a diagnostic - he believed it could be an injector fault. However, since the service the problem has got much worse, in that every journey is now juddering. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - Air Conditioning - Please help! 1 Jul 2011 (Forum)
If it might be the switch, is this something that I could check myself? (VERY VERY basic knowledge of cars, changing a distributor cap is about my limit lol) -
Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet 2005 1.6 petrol - intermittent camshaft knocking 15 Apr 2011 (Forum)
knocks briefly and the engine management light comes back on .my mechanic says its unlikely the camshaft is worn because of the low mileage and because the engine/camshaft doesnt knock when the engine is warm. His only option now is to change both camshafts £600 . has anyone encountered this problem before .any help would be much appreciated. regards tony g -
Do I need a special tool to get my 2003 Ford Focus' sump nut off? 9 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
My 2003 Ford Focus' sump nut has rounded off. Is there a tool to get the sump nut off so I can replace it? -
Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 04 2.2 When is inspection/renewal of glow plugs re 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It is used for long journeys, runs as it should - probably because of this and it is well looked after by me with 5w/40 synthetic oil changes at 1/2 the specified "intervals". I would be grateful for advice from a diesel engine expert on when it is necessary to inspect/renew the glow plugs, as this is not specifically mentioned in the service schedules. -
Antifreeze - a cautionary tale 31 May 2009 (Forum)
This has caused through time pressure to build up in the system resulting in head gasket failure, thermostat failure and failure of the oil cooler too. Hopefully the matrix will be a bit sturdier and OK. Anyway system has been thoroughly flushed, and hopefully all seems just fine now. Garages were until recently unaware of this phenomenon apparently. -

SAAB 9-3 Convertible (2003 - ) - Servicing & preserving the manufacturer's warranty 29 May 2008 (Forum)
The wife's Saab 93 convertible is a year old at the end of May and, therefore, needs its first annual inspection. In Saab terminology this is an "intermediate service" i.e. nothing more than a check and an oil change. The first dealer I rang quoted a not insubstantial £256 for this which I think is very steep so I'm thinking I'll take it to a Saab independent specialist, of which there are 2 or 3 within reasonable distance of home here in Leeds. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.9TD - Fan/Aux Belt 27 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Changed the engine on my pug 306 4/5 months mainly thanks to my mate. I particularly remember what a pig the aux/fan belt was to get back on. In the last few weeks i have been getting a whirring noise coming when idle. -
Proton Persona Coupe - h/brake & caliper 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Does this sound like a major problem or you think a local garage to remove calliper and fit new pads might sort the situation out, does the fact that it catches in 2 places mean the whole assembly might be damaged in some way, Accident?? Any help as always very much appreciated, if this does not cost too much im going to attempt and oil change myself!! Cavalier Sri Ecotec top end rattles 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It hasn't been used much in the last few years but after recently starting it up I noticed the top end is very noisy, sounds a bit like a diesel! I have changed the oil & filter (Sae 15/40) but this has made little difference. The engine mgmt light also sometime comes on when first started, but by quickly flicking the ignition off/on it goes away. I have shorted out the pins on the diag plug but no fault code shows up according to the flashing mgmt light sequence. -
CAFÉ ? fuel economy 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
This would have required the American automobiles manufacturers to make a larger number of small cars to balance their production of SUVs, but they are not willing to do this. Also, the oil companies certainly don?t want to sell less fuel when they are having such a good time. Instead, the industries and the unions have lobbied congress and succeeded in getting the government to change the method of calculating the fuel efficiency so that it doesn? -
Ford Ka servicing. 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I'm also unaware of the mileage and age at the moment, though the will obviously become clear when I see it tonight. I'm happy to do the oil and filter change for her, and will do that regardless. Are there any unusual or notorious things to look out for on other servicing aspects of this car? Is it true the spark plugs can get jammed tight? -

Alfa 156 JTD 16V Performance Problem 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It can take 5 - 10 mins to get the revs up to take off in the mornings. I have cleaned out the air intake as much as possible (it was filthy), changed the oil&filter, air filter and fuel filter (twice). I've been told the Air flow meter is fine and what it needs is and ECU upgrade. Anyone got any idea's? It's driving me crasy at this stage -
Civic accident write-off value 9 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The insurer paid me at market value (£3500) but I intend to dispute the offer price given the car has always been serviced by dealer. In additon, cambelt & exhaust, battery & engine oil were changed 6 months and 1 month respectively. I believe they will sell it at a cheap price to a garage for repair and re-sell the car thereafter (as the car is not really that bad damaged beyond repair, it's beyond economical repair!). -

stalling KA 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The garage has had it in and can find no faults on the ECU error logs and cleaned some stuff out of the air box intake and adjusted the timing, but this hasn't helped. Other than this it drives fine. The only thing that has changed is that when it was delivered, the oil level came past the max mark on the dip stick (about 50% of min - max). It has since covered 3000 miles and is down to 1/2 between min and max. Any ideas would be greatfully received. -
Golf Mk 2 - Lots of repairs needed! 3 Nov 2002 (Forum)
And as I've just bought an ole Golf (1988 1.6 CL) that needs a bit of work doing to it, I will probably test your patience several times! It needs an oil change and the like and new brake pads and discs (which shouldn't be a problem) But there are a few things that puzzle me and any guidance would be most welcome! One thing that strikes me about the car is that the wipers have to be switched off manually, i.e. they will not stop when you switch off the ignition. -
Running in a new yaris 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Finally, the first service is scheduled for 10,000 miles - is this correct ? Surely the car should be taken back for an oil change sooner that this to get rid of the inevitable swarf that will be created by running it in ? Thanks Jake
