Citroen Synergie 1.9td 1999 - rattles and smoke from xud 1.9td 3 May 2011 (Forum)
there is also a booming kind of noise from the engine although it appears to be ticking over very nicely. Air filter is clean. Oil and cambelt were changed recently. Any ideas would be great as this was meant to be a cheap car and any problems i shall have to fix myself as cant afford the garage bill. And finally where is the rev guage sensor as rev guage is not working? -
Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI 2006 - Temperature 21 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Normally its up at middle after about 3 miles. I noticed this last night on my way home, I did a DIY oil change on Saturday but cant be sure if this problem is related or has been happening for a few weeks. The temp gauge isnt something I normally look at. When I got home I started the car in test mode and the engine temperature was showing as 107c so the engine was definatly hot. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2000 2.0 - Keeps Cutting Out When Warm 8 Jun 2010 (Forum)
we have a 2000 golf cabriolet colour concept which when warm keeps cutting out. The rev counter drops to zero, the oil light flashes then the battery light flashes and car dies. You have to stop the car, key out and then re start it but as engine gets warmer it cuts out more frequently. Read about relay 109 and garage said mine doesnt have a relay 109 and told me to change relay 30 which i did but it still isnt fixed ?? -
Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.8 Lambda sensor? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My rev counter is eratic on tic over and whilst driving, seems to be worse under 50miles an hour the overall performance is very poor engine management light is on continually had diagnostics twice first one was intermittent misfire and was suggested a valve was sticking new oil and additives were added to the engine but to no avail second diagnostic cam shaft sensor fault, replaced it, but no change,I have been told it could be the lambada sensor is not working I have disconnected the plug on the wiring harness while the engine was ticking over no difference was noted on engine tick over and rev counter was still operating eraticaly took it for a drive round the block no difference was noted, if the lambada was working correctly would I have noticed a difference after unplugging it.I hope sombody can advise me it has been going on for a long time and I have spent a lot of money on false leads. -
Ridiculous news items 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
That's fair enough, the 6 is a lolvely looking car, and it's probably great as long as it's not you paying for frequent oil changes because the diesel particulate filter fills the sump with diesel. But we are then told that this diesel estate car costs half what a large, heavy, thirsty 4x4 does per mile, while not mentioning that it is completely unable to tow the same weight, go offroad, or do anything much that would make the comparison more relevant. -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1999 1.0 - Cutting out on start-up 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This has been an ongoing problem over the past month or two, but is now getting much worse and is nearly happening on a dialy basis. I have recently had a service, oil change and spark plugs replaced. (Also I am a newbie when it comes to car engines) Any idea's or help appreciated, Thanks in advance! P.S. Also VW official garage are quoting 85+VAT... JUST TO HAVE A LOOK!!! -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1999 1.9D 'Lights On' buzzer not working 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've looked at the Haynes wiring diagram and it doesn't show how the buzzer is triggered by the door switch. I'm guessing it's the same buzzer as for the low oil pressure warning because I can't see another. Any help to clear the fog appreciated. Thanks Steve. -
SEAT Ibiza II (1993 - 1999) - Ibiza GTi Cupra Sport - things to look for?? 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I'm thinking of changing my Ka to the above - I accept insurance will be a challenge (I'm only 24!) but the increased running costs currently seem favourable to shelling out on the engine work required on the Ka (drinking oil) and getting it through the MOT in July. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 92 1.2 Starting Problems 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
hi, I have a very peculiar and strange problem with my L reg nissa micra....and this problem surfaces only during winters...in the cold winter mornings the car engine turns but just doesn't fires up...as the day progresses and the temp goes up with sun and all, the engine fires up...also I have observed that the fuel pump switching on sound which comes up when u turn the ignition is missing when I try doing the same in the cold winter mornings....I have been going mad over this issue and have got everything else checked and changed like the...engine oil, spark plugs and even the distributor....still the problem of cold start in the mornings persists...and its just in the winter mornings....in summers there is no problem at all...already have spent more than £200 on the services....plz help...thanks. -
Nissan Sunny (1986 - 1991) - 1.4 12V H/B loss of power/revs on acceleration 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
OK, coil gives correct resistances, diz cap looks OK (I think), leads seem OK too. Was serviced recently with new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, valve adjustment, oil change. Seemed better for a while now back to square 1. Son says better in the wet. Redex in tank and direct into carb. - no difference. I presume it's a fuel side problem? Likely culprits? Cheers for any help Alban -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - Servicing - Dealer or Independant? 15 Sep 2007 (Forum)
ie. is having the book stamped really worth the money in the long run (residual values when I come to sell on the car?) or should I just get it serviced partly myself (oil/filter change etc.) and perhaps more complicated bits at a local garage and forgo the book stamping. Any advice greatly appreciated. Andy -
Rover - K-series head gasket failure prevention? 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Might it be as important to do this at 100,000m on any engine as changing the cam belt? -
Passat 99 TDI - flood water damage 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Imagine my shock when I was called this morning to say that the car started and has been run for a short distance. He's advised me to have the oil and filter changed pronto (as it's emulsified) and also the air filter. Given the nature of these VAG PD engines with their very fine engineering tolerances, I'm thinking of cancelling the insurance claim, getting it "clean" and chopping it in for something else asap. -
Just bought Pug 106 1.5D 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What's the best engine oil for this car? Also when turning right car makes a noise which seems to be coming from the o/s front tyre so it could be CV joint? Is it costly? Every now and then battery light in the dashboard comes on and then just switched itself off after driving for few minutes. -
Ford Focus - Jerky Throttle 23 May 2006 (Forum)
I have tried hundreds of variations in throttle use, from "flooring it", down to easing power back *very* gently and progressively, and *every* time the car "lurches" back on the power again (seems more noticable when at normal operating temperature). Is this a problem with the 2.0l 16v Zetec engine on 80,000 miles? It has clean air filter / oil & filter changed 2000 miles ago. Any suggestions what may be causing this? P.S. I do not have this problem in any other car I have owned / driven so do not think it is my throttle technique!. Thanks in advance Pete. -
Eceptionally low milage 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Last time it was moved was january this year. It was serviced 1000Km and 1500Km and last December 05 (oil/filter change) I believe the Klms to be genuine as it is an Expat who bought the car then had to relocate. He is now trying to cut his losses. The car was approx 25/26K new and i was thinking of offering 15/16K. -
VW / Audi long life servicing experience 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have searched here before and the main opinion was that you should either return to fixed servicing, or oil change in between. Given that the long life servicing has been out there some time now does anyone have any real experience of it in terms of how long they get between services, and any reliability issues with big service intervals outside of warranty? -
Problems with Rover 75 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Would this be the timing chain or something else less serious...Rover dealer did say it could be a fuel issue as they havent heard of chains needing replacing and its had 5K oil changes. Car is 1999 Diesel with 210,000 on the clock! Any ideas would be great! -
Bellypans 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
they are an absolute pig to get off, and even worse to refit unless you have a pit or a hydraulic ramp. I have even even up doing my own oil changes because it just isn't worth the bother, I now go to my local ATS. Is there really any point to these things? My wife's Saxo hasn't got one, and with both cars roughly on the same mid seventies mileage the engine bays look in about the same state of cleanliness. -
Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - Leaking Coolant. 6 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The following day i checked to see how much water was lost, this was approximately an inch of the expansion tank. I thought it might be the head gasket but there is no oil in the water e.t.c. Have you any ideas what it could be? Thanks
