  • BMW 320D SE - BMW As & When Servicing 2 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I then got a dashboard !! Sign saying service required at 36K. I took it in and it needed an oil change and fluids check. Fine. The bill? £357! Next up, according to the all-telling key fob, is a brake fluid change after another 1,600 miles. Can't you do it now? Not due yet. Next will be front brakes in March, apparently.
  • Renault Laguna II 1.9 dCI - Whistle from engine 16 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Could this be causing it? Earlier on sunday I did an oil change, and no differently to the many times before, so I cannot see why this would have caused any problem. I have checked all the piped leading to and from the turbo, but all seem fine with no splits.
  • Buying a C3 Pluriel 17 Jun 2007 (Forum)
If anyone has any advice on what to ask / look for on this specific car or in general then I would appreciate it. I know nothing about cars (can change oil and fit bolt on parts like exhausts but thats about it) then I would assume people would recommend an AA/RAC inspection? Cheers M

  • Previa Diesel Turbo or not! 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It has also cut out and gone into "get you home mode" several times Finally the Toyota dealer has decided that this is a Turbo fault and it needs to be changed out (at great cost as it is now out of warranty). This fault is intermittent, I am not using any oil and not pouring black smoke out of the exhaust, even when the fault is occurring. When the fault is not happening the engine pulls fine and revs cleanly throughout the range.
  • Astra Ecotec Cam Belt Failure Info 12 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Similar story to David W's job back in October 01. Car lost power at 70 MPH/3000 RPM and ground to a halt. Belt and tensioners had been changed at 30K and car had now done 71K. It was due for a change but there was no noise whatsoever coming from that end of the engine. Engine stripped - 16 valves bent, 6 Valve guides cracked and cosmetically marked pistons.
  • Servicing. Why bother? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
As soon as the car is out of warranty, why take it for a regular service? Let me clarify, I would always recommend an oil and filter change when due, but you can get that done at most quick fit places for around £20 - £30, air filter once a year, brakes obviously need to be checked but these can be checked every 6 months or so, depending on mileage done each month, when the oil filter is done.
  • Toyota Yaris D-4D Testdrive. 10 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Apart from an oil change I don't think there is an awful lot more that I would be prepared to tackle in this lovely little engine. Having said that there is always the reassurance of the 3 year warranty. Well, I don't know about you, but I've earmarked mine, done the deal, and will be picking it up at midday next Friday.
  • Ford Kuga engine replaced under warranty - why am I being charged for the oil and spark plugs? 24 Sep 2021 (Ask HJ)
My 2018 1.5 EcoBoost petrol Ford Kuga has been with the dealer for four weeks waiting for a new engine to be fitted under warranty. I reported it was using...
  • Peugeot Boxer 2.5 2001 smoking after belt change 14 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I called the guy over who did the belt change and asked him why it was like this to which he replied (it may be your injectors ). Ffs i didnt bring it in to you like this. Anyway i needed the van for work so took it home. Now i serviced this van 2 days earlier and was underneath it and all was ok except a bit of an oil leak front and rear.
  • Is there a known issue with the Ford servicing schedule of cam belts? 10 Mar 2017 (Ask HJ)
My 2013 Ford Fiesta 125 Ecoboost has a failed cambelt. Ford recommend changing at 150,000 miles, but mine failed at 108,000 and it has a full service history...
  • Honda Jazz - CVT Fluid 7 Jun 2025 (Forum)
It’s got a slight judder when taking up drive, that I’d like to cure/diminish. Consensus is that a fluid change would be the first port of call. The level is OK on the transmission dipstick, but the fluid is more an engine oil colour than the red I’d expect. The problem I’m having is getting a garage to do it - even after I’ve explained that it’s a routine procedure.
  • Skoda Yeti - Skota Yeti auto -- DSG high mileage 29 Nov 2024 (Forum)
It's 9k and I'd want to get a good few years out of it. Asked for service history and was shown one page of A4 with a list of yearly service and oil changes every 2 years ... but no actual stamps / receipts. Thoughts, anyone?
  • Skoda Superb 2.0 DSG 190 2020 - Keeping a complicated car going 27 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I find i actually quite like it so I'm looking for any strategies to keep it going for the long term. My worries include the DSG box (early oil change?) and numerous electronic systems. I didn't realise Skoda connect was only free for a month then i have to pay ?£30 pcm for it. There goes the 600MB software upgrade via WiFi then. . Is the skoda service pack and then extended warranty worth it?
  • Mondeo PowerShift - Higher Mileage Car 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I believe these 'boxes need servicing to schedule to remain relaible. My main concern is around the gearbox (even if it has had the oil changes to schedule, which I would confirm before commiting to buying it), is it a valid concern or am I being parnoid?
  • Honda Accord - Windscreen lack trim detraching 3 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I took it with mileage of 29 in Feb 2000, it had been sitting on a dealer forecourt for close on six months, so I got a good price. I've always followed Hon John's advice and changed the oil every 5k or six months and the car has never let me down in 173k.The trim that seals the front screen to the body now protrudes at both front top corners. The screen was replaced maybe fifteen years ago.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 revving up and down when idle then stalls 27 Oct 2019 (Forum)
When driving and stopping at a set of lights, foot off accelerator and clutch in, the revs start going up and down from about 500 to 1200 then drops lower and stalls, engine restarts fine, and all ok until next set of lights........... the engine does not do this when cold and the idle revs are higher, problem starts when engine is hot....... plugs, airfilter, battery and oil have all been changed...... Anyone any ideas
  • 90K Astra maintainance 4 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Plus if it keeps going for another few years it means we can afford to keep the beautiful Barchetta. With this in mind, I am changing the oil now every 3k, and the filter every 6k. Apart from the regular service things on the schedule, should I be doing anything more? The car is now being used for more short runs than I would like.
