Then in early June we had jerky  gear change and engine  warining light. The AA  suggested usng the diesel cleaning fluid which solved the  problem. We asked Ford to check it over anyway  just to be sure and low and behold we are told the problem is complicated and after £400 of dianostics this week we were told they cannt find the  origin of the problem They suggested an turbo change  or new engine. This in inself is an unsatifactory response by FORD.

  • Volkswagen Corrado (1989 - 1995) - 92 2.9 VR6 MoT CO emissions fail - any ideas? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
First question - should Lambda flutuate at a constant RPM that much? Second question - How do I fix it? The MOT tester was ex-VW and seemed to think a change of oil and filter would make a difference, otherwise who knows because theres so much that will imapct it, so he wasn't much use (last oil change 2k miles ago).
  • Hyundai i20 - Engine noise. Is it all over for the car? 27 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I wasn't sure if it had always been there. I was about to do a long journey so drove ten miles to local garage, checked the oil which was low and topped it up.  Then I drove 200 miles home. It's not obviously loosing oil, no warning lights have come on, the volume doesn't really change I don't think.  There hasn't been any obvious loss of power.
  • Toyota Celica - Failed Emissions Test MOT 16 Apr 2018 (Forum)
However, there has always been an issue with the engine warning light coming on but no mechanic has been able to diagnose the issue. It has also drank a lot of oil too through-out my ownership. I'm told this is a frequent problem with Celica's.   I'm not sure what to do as the mechanics have said that it's burning oil and think it could be a valve issue or rings.
  • Toyota RAV4 D-4D - Blown Turbo again 2 Apr 2017 (Forum)
3 weeks ago the newish turbo blew after 7000 miles and said garage removed it and I returned it to BTN with a claim for a replacement. I have just received a report from BTN saying about what I expected, turbo failed due to 'oil dirt ingress'. Pictures of oily bits and scoring on shafts etc. Garage says it fitted the turbo correctly, changed oil and filter and I do trust them. In my opinion the damage seen on the photos could have been the result of the failure itself, if a bearing failed for example.
  • Mk1 Golf cam noise 7 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Anyone come across either problem on this engine and, more importantly, is there an inexpensive cure? One other thing - the oil pressure light takes about a second to go out from a cold start, and there's a noticeable rattle until it does so. I changed the oil and fitted a genuine VW filter, but no difference. It's so long since I last owned an early GTI that I can't remember whether this is normal behaviour for these engines - comments please.
  • 1.9 cdti with dpf - Dpf and/or engine experts please help 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi all Trying to find out whats wrong with my motor Using the car as taxi, lot of town driving , no motorway sometimes for weeks First the lack of powerat around 75k miles, felt like the turbo was held back, kept on driving anyway, two weeks later, big "exhaling" sound as it can be from an engine and just stopped. Towed, although when cooled could be started again. Into Vauxhall, changed manifold and dpf and they said I had a lot of excess oil. Genuine manifold, aftermarket dpf. Since then, when regening, huge blue smoke comes out and doing the process for way too long and sometimes too often and excessive oil builds up Could it be that some kind of seal gave in, when I was driving for too long without turbo and in the mean time the dpf clogged up, so maybe the pressure that built up for these reasons just led the weakest seal to break?
  • Skoda Fabia VRS OCT 10 - New engine needed, no warranty provided 30 Oct 2014 (Forum)
They changed the hoses as part of the skoda recall on these cars and told me to go back for oil to be weighed after a specific amount of miles. Fair enough. WhenI went back they advised me that it needed a new engine.
