  • Mazda 3 2008 - Service interval reset. DPF lamp flashing. 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
At first I thought this was serious, but it transpired it was just the service interval indicator needed reseting. I had changed the oil and filter on schedule, but had been unable to find reference to resetting the service interval, and some 1000 - to 2000 miles later the "DPF" started flashing. Some research on the net re-assured me it was just the service interval, BUT, I could find no way of resetting it without a Mazda specific computer ( Can not be done with an ODBII reader as it isn't a "Fault" ).

  • Any - BMW vs AUDI 14 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The point of this rant is to say that AUDI dealers are completely awful to deal with, whereas BMW seem to have much better people who keep their promises and know how to ensure their prospective customers are looked after. I have a VW now and have not had any issues, its just time to change, I hope AUDI start to recede from their position in the UK
  • Nissan 100NX 1.6 Targa - Reconditioned gearbox failing! 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Now the gearbox was starting to crunch a few months back so i went to a different garage to get the oil changed and they told me there was lots of metal in the gearbox and it couldn't be refurbished. I thought they was trying to get money out of me so i left it.  Now live in London and my girlfriend and son live in Swindon till i can save enough for the big move and on my way down for my 21st birthday the gearbox went into fifth and straight back out and was grinding, no matter how much i go to put it in it will come out again either straight away or 5 mins of driving and the dirveshafts are clicking on turning which is the cv joints!
  • Honda Accord 2.0 SE Vtec (1999) (auto) - Engine Management light issues 12 Jul 2011 (Forum)
It did, and so on Friday the dealer confirmed the garage would sort out the engine management light issue and took it back to the garage. They changed the plugs for me (the others were pretty new and leads are new on last service in Feb). Diagnostics then brought up no codes. Garage also advised me to check oil regularly with that engine, I must say I feel very confident about the work they have done and that they are not trying to rip me off, they treated me with respect and showed me everything they did as they did it.
  • SEAT Leon (1999 - 2005) - Rough running at lower revs, warning light 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Checked oil which was slightly low but not below minimum and had no real choice but to drive home. I noticed that intermittently, the harsh running sound seemed to suddenly disappear and asked des. driver (aka wife) to vary engine speeds and gears.
  • Mazda 6 2008 - Recall on my car whilst in production 19 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Where do i stand in regards to asking Mazda for all documents including what works they carried out and why this recall was neccessary directly specifying documents on my vehicle of what they changed or modified. Only reason i am asking is because now VOSA are reluctant to do anything more in my case because there has only been a few complaints but the problem is near enough exact to why 15,000 Mazda 6's got recalled.
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 02 1.6 EAC Fail and engine mangement warning light 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am due to take the car tomorrow but yesterday it happened again doing it's usual. I pulled off the motorway to turn off and back on again, but when I started to slow I changed down into 4th gear and when I released the clutch it jolted like it was too soon to release and a few moments after as well as eac fail flashing, my engine management light and oil light also came on and it seemed as though I lost my power steering also.
  • Cars easier to service, DIY declining 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The following ( manual brake adjustment/tappets/head removal/decokes/lapping in valves//greasing/contactbreakers/frequent spark plug replacement/HT leads/distributercap/dealing with structural rust), are no longer part of the regular DIY of contemporary cars Some current car *engines* are only oil and filter changes (Servicing for the actual engine at routine services) . OK I`m refering to the Fiats Multjet here as I`m familiar with it, but the aygo`s petrol engine must be similar. Both with hydraulic tappets and chain drive camshafts reducing servicing even more.
  • Vauxhall Omega ABS Light 14 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The cars not worth much, has a minor oil leak that's going to cost more than the cars worth to repair & I intend to run it until something else costs too much to replace & then scrap it. Thanks for any pointers
  • Three Wheels On My Waggon 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I can only assume that the wheel came off as a result of the nuts not being tight enough, and of course that would have been my fault. We had actually checked the tyre pressures and the oil and water levels before commencing the journey, but as it was dark when we set off, we didn't notice anything untoward with the wheel nuts. It's not something I would have even considered checking in any case.
  • Bargain Hunt 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
It's just coming up to 99k miles, so should be good for another 150-200k. Not that I'll have it that long. No malfunctions, no mayonnaise, good oil, starts first time from cold, plenty of life in the tyres which were on long enough to show even wear all round, history checks out, and the only rust I could find (believe me, I looked everywhere) was a tiny spot above the rim of the two headlamps.
  • Mercedes CLK 270 CDI 2004 - Dealer Issues with a Faulty Car 3 May 2014 (Forum)
    3. Tyres fitted to the front where of a larger diameter then the rears (these have now been changed round) 4. One of the two tyres they fitted is heavily cracked on the inner rim and they are also of different brands. 5. Driver’s seat broken (the back rest twists under load) 6.
  • Skoda Yeti - My Yeti(s) 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
After the remap it seemed sensible to take it outside the dealer network for servicing and I've found a knowledgeable indie, who now looks after the car. I've stuck with long-life servicing, but change the oil myself after 10k miles, using a Pela oil extractor.  I plan to get the cambelt / water pump changed at 4 years old and am currently investigating the costs involved in switching to 312 mm front brakes.

  • Mitsubishi Outlander-Could it be a failed DMF on? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
It has done 106000mls, and has a a full service history, mixture of indies and Mitsubishi. I had the gearbox oil changed at as a precaution ~90k as I couldn't find any evidence of a change. This was done by the nearest Mitsubishi dealer, which has since gone out of business. Recently when the car is warm, it develops the following symptom:- At cruise, below 2000rpm, the engine speed gently surges by about 100-150rpm.
  • Nissan Almera Tino - Suggestions for Automatic replacement 18 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Hi Folks I have a 2001 Nissan Almera Tino (thats the MPV variant of an Almera hatchback for those that don't recognise it) 1.8 petrol manual gearbox and we have had it since 2004 (ex motability) and apart from a few early niggles and a crank sensor going recently its been remarkably dependable. Currently on 71,500 miles It gets an oil change and filter every year regardless of minimal miles covered and doesn't seem to be encountering the notorious "chcolate cam chain issue" that affected many of these cars, especially the 1.5 hatchbacks.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - How long can an average petrol car run for? 24 Oct 2018 (Forum)
And tbh I see it more risky to buy a car from a dealer that has mechanics that only work for the dealer, than to buy it from a garage that has a mechanic there that owns the place, and his dad also owned the place too and so passed his skills on and ultimately his name is on the line more than a faceless corporation), it's not really using oil differently, it always seems to use a lot of oil in the winter and then not so much in the summer (usually I have to top it up twice in the winter, but nothing in the summer - it's been like that since we got it so I guess that's just normal).
  • Things we didn't ask for on cars 22 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The DPF.....great idea, especially the regen cycle being so bad on many cars that it starts diluting the sump oil with Diesel. No problem I read just change it if the oil level rises too much...whaaat, we pay a lot of money for quality lubricants, with fancy ratings and don't worry if it gets diluted by half a litre or more of Diesel.
  • Skoda Karoq 1.5tsi DSG - One year in 5 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Two very minor problems when I first got it: 1. 12v sockets weren't working.  I changed what I thought was the fuse to no avail. 2.  One of the rear tyres had a (very) slow puncture.  One day whilst topping it up I noticed that it said 'inside' on the sidewall facing me.
