Tapping Rover 75 2L V6 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
(tapping 1000-2000rpm, knocking and vibration at 600rpm) Dont get me wrong the vibration is not bone shaking but it wasnt there before. P.S. I have tried changing the oil and filter including trying this engine flush stuff with no resolution to my problem. Cheers, Lee. -
If Microsoft Built Cars 24 Oct 2001 (Forum)
When you put luggage in the boot, at the end of your journey half of it would have disappeared. You would find it on the roof rack one month later. The oil, petrol and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single general purpose warning light. Changing to a different brand of fuel would cause the engine to cut out everytime you turned left. -
Vauxhall Astra club - Help! My mechanic can't diagnose my Astra 15 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Allegedly a miscommunication with engineering guys - they didn't complete the valve lapping. Piston rings appear to be ok, wet & dry readings result in no change - mechanic contacts engineering company to follow up on what occurred with head work. Mechanic orders 4 new hydraulic lifters. No signs of cracked head, head was pressure checked and passed New lifters fitted - no change. -
307 d turbo - 307 d turbo 2002 engine management. 25 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Also to add i thought it was the map sensor thats located ontop of the coolent radiator, after changing this still no change. Also i noticed the other week that the pipe that goes from the turbo to the coolent radiator was loose and would leak abit of oil, after tighting this back up still would make no diffrence to limp mode. -
Mitsubishi Space Wagon (1999 - 2005) - 2.4 GDi Engine, noisy tappets and perfomance issue 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
At the moment I'm under the impression that a good service (accompanied with a good engine flush on the oil change) & perhaps some 10k boost or other Decoking agent may solve the problem, but don't want to spend out on that & later find that the throttle bodies needed replacing. By the same measure, I don't want to spend £2-300 getting the throttle bodies replaced only to find that a service would've done the trick. -
Citroen Xantia auto gearbox problem 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
This on a car that, until it reaches 10 mph or so could be blown into the weeds by an athletic snail. I've done a search and the only thing that fits is low oil level. Yesterday we couldn't find the handbook and I couldn't find a dipstick under the bonnet to check the level. Any clues anyone? H. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Lack of Power/Gutless 12 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I will list everything I have done to date so perhaps you can suggest some ideas! 1. Engine flushed and new oil air and fuel filters, removed the pick-up unit in the fuel tank and cleaned the plastic gauze (although not dirty and the bottom of the fuel tank was clean) siphoned fuel out at the filter head to confirm clear fuel feed to filter. -

VAG Long Life servicing Dead? 10 Jan 2006 (Forum)
When I looked closer at the book it has a couple of option boxs for the garage to tick - is this car on long life servicing? YES. Was long life oil used? NO. Assuming this is a simple mistake I called the sales person and explained and asked her to check with the service department what they had done - she was in fact surprised that they had serviced it at all given the mileage, and said she was a little confused, so would check and call me back. -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDDi Duratorq 2001 Model 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Insulation and cladding rubbers in engine become brittle and breaks easily, even in BMW and S-500 Merz. Also, I try to service my car (changing Engine Oil and filter) for every 5,000km distance travelled. Book recommends 3,000 miles which is more or less 5,000km. And it recommends engine oil of grade 5W-30, but I cannot find such grades locally. -
I am an idiot Legal advice... 5 Mar 2004 (Forum)
This explains why he was so insistent that I put some more oil into it the moment I picked it up from him, although it was on 'min' and would have been changed last Sunday and I only had 25 miles to do to get home. Buyer's known purpose was a car that would drive - not a bottom up restoration project; we discussed this. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Grand Scenic - 1 yr / 16,000 mile report. 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Costs so far - a glow plug at £8 (and 20 mins with some test cables and a pair of water pump pliers) to identify the failed plug and swap it), and the 36k "major" service which set us back £260 at the local Renault dealer. Being deeply sceptical of Renault's 18k service intervals, I also dropped the oil and replaced the filter 10,000 miles later, using a service kit from Opie Oils consisting of 6 litres of Motul X-Cess synthetic oil, and a Purolator filter, costing a total of £46. It's also needed two new front Michelin Energy tyres at £150, and a pair of wiper blades at an eye watering £42. -
Ford Fiesta 2000 1.3l petrol manual - Mk4 Fiesta 1.3l petrol overheating 24 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The upper rad pipe gets very hot and becomes highly pressurised, but the middle and lower ones are cool and no change in pressure. The coolant looks a bit dirty, even after having been changed recently, but there is no sign of any white gunk associated with a blown HG and the oil is clean as well. The only thing I can think of is that the radiator is blocked somewhere, but if anyone has any other ideas I would be grateful. -
Advice on my next car 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Just thinking of changing my car. In a fit of madness, I bought a 3 door 2005 Polo Twist SDI in 2006 from a car supermarket with the idea that I was going to be frugal, saving a fortune in fuel and tax but ended up buying a barge that can be easily overtaken by a milk float. -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 Emissions Test Failure Causes 19 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I suppose changing the distrubutor cap and sticking some new plug leads on wont hurt. Any questions, feel free to ask. -
keep 306 or s/h almera-primera-mondeo? 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Tracking needs doing as I've kerbed one of the front wheels. Brakes, cam belt, coolant was done last year. Oil is changed 3 times a year. I have done 164k miles in it in just over six years and am doing about 16-20k miles per year at the moment. This year I'll probably do the same including a 3k mile round trip to France, 18 miles per day commute and numerous 200-600 mile trips to the coast and the mountains. -
Omega query: tie-rods fouling alloys. 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Sorry for the ramble, I'm not angry but just really disappointed, this is the second visit to 2 separate garages, from the GG list, to do relatively straightforward repairs; First time it was to change the rocker cover gaskets due to a small oil leak - went in with a beautifully smooth running, near silent engine, came out with a lumpy idle and a dodgy rattle from the cambelt area. Now this..... -
Jeep Cherokee - Consumer rights with used car? 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I explained all of the above to him and he told me that he never said that at point of sale and that he had only changed the oil and oil filter and that I should have known that. He then began to shout at me and talk over me whilst I was trying to explain my dilemma and consumer rights. He then shouted at me to come and pay £1000 and he'll see me in court.
