  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - (96-97) 1.9TD -White Smoke on Starting 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My best guess is that it's either: A) An injector has gone down B) Fuel timing is out Ive read around, and most people suggest that white smoke is unburnt diesel. Fuel filter looks brand new. I did an oil & oil filter change over the weekend. and put a new Air Filter in too. Any ideas as to what may be causing the dodgy starting, white smoke and reduced accelerator responsiveness, would be greatly appreciated.
  • E46 BMW sump problem 19 Jan 2007 (Forum)
When he asked the dealers how this could have happened, they said it could not have been them as "a very experienced technician changed the oil". Does he have any recourse to get them to fix it? I guess legally they could say that anyone could have over tightend the bolt after the service took place. Does anyone know where he can get a sump from (cheaper than the dealers quote of £250ish?).
  • Mini TLC servicing - what is missed? 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Challenged BMW service garage as to why this was not picked up at the last service 6 weeks ago (rust is much longer than 6 weeks worth - many many months according to the local garage)) The BMW dealer service dept responded - The last service was essentially only an oil change - we only look at the brakes @ 30,000 miles not every 15K. Surely a service is as much a check on Brakes as it is an oil change - and of course this should have been the 30K service? Will writing to BMW & the dealer do any good or does the owner just shake her head and forget it.
  • Xantia Misfiring 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I took the car into my local garage and asked him to put his experience to it. He worried me by asking what oil was in the engine. Apparently, the 16 valve engines on the Fords can really cause problems if you put the wrong oil in them, effectively glueing the hydraulic tappets down and not closing the valves properly, but he thought it unlikely that this was the cause.

  • 2001 Daewoo Matiz - Daewoo Matiz - Stalling Issue 26 May 2017 (Forum)
The car stalls only once and then the same light thumping sound from exhaust as if something is stuck in it before it clears and it starts to run without fault. I've checked the air filter, it is relatively clear as if recently changed.  Also checked, it doesn't give out smoke as well, oil level is pretty much constant too so I doubt it's burning oil.  Any other advice that you could provide will be very helpful.
  • A4 2002 1.9TDI - Audi 14 Apr 2014 (Forum)
2002 Audi A4 1.9TDI....100 BHP... 227k and still going strong............regular 5w/30 oil (Quantum) changes using oil to VW 504/507....every 8k miles....looking to take it to 300K.  On average 600-650 miles on a full tank on Shell fuel. Question 1 Car needs a new clutch, though still working, pedal is hard and bites at the top.
  • Diesels falling apart 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
No wonder there are some cheap s/hand cars about. My little bit of advice to diesel owners - longlife servicing WRECKS your car. Current oil and filter technology is not up to 20k changes. I'm seeing lots of cars (mostly diesels) on LL servicing with expensive faults. For cost of a gallon of oil and filter get it done every 6 months - doesn't have to be a £150 job at a main dealer, get it done at an independent (or yourself) between main services.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 05 1.4 Noisy gearbox/final drive 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
No vibration or harshness is apparent - just a build up of noise. I have drained & replaced the gearbox oil (there was plenty in there) with fully synthetic gear oil which has given it a smoother change (a cunning trick for old manual SAAB 9-3s/9-5s) but this hasn't made any difference to the noise it makes.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 02 1.0 auto problem reving higher than normal 1 Nov 2008 (Forum)
can anyone help with a problem our nissan micra 2002 1.0 auto has developed. it starts no problem and like normal when getting warm it holds itself in a lower gear to keep the revs high to warm up faster. but unlike normal when it is at normal temp it just wants to keep reving at higher revs. example if at 30mph its at 1400 revs for no reason it jumps upto 2000revs and still doing 30mph and more often than not will not engage final drive ( 5th gear ). now i know to chech the level of gear oil which i did. and it was not pink so i have changed the oil and its not pink but still i have this problem. if i was a betting man id say if this was my twist n go scooter that the belt is slipping and thus not moving the variator out far enough to engage its last gear postion. thanks for reading
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1997 1.9TD Terrible Starter 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It wasn't the best at starting when I first bought it but replacement glow plugs cured this. Now confession time........approximately four months ago I started using veggie oil (around 5/6 litres per tankful) and the car continued to run normally. About two months ago though and hearing that Lucas fuel pumps don't like the stuff, I quickly ditched the veggie oil idea.
  • Making an offer on a scooter (Kymco) 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone give me an idea of how much lower I can bargain this price down to. 2. Since the scooter has been in the showroom for one year +, should the engine oil, gear oil, coolant and brake fluid be changed as it may have deteriorated within this time. 3. The scooter was taken in and out of the showroom to view it outside. The mirror caught on the door and has a scratch.

  • EGR Valves 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
HI All, i am curious about egr valves - doesnt affect me personally i am just quiourious- and have the following queries, 1/ I have heard that egr valves can get gummed up if the car has not had regular oil changes why is this if its is only exhaust gas that goes past the valve?? does oil from the crankcase breather go past the egr valve and back into the air inlet?? 2/ At what stage does the egr valve open and close??

  • 75000 mile Type-S, what needs doing? 7 Nov 2003 (Forum)
(Revs out to 8000rpm without missing a beat.) It's been well looked after and the guy who's had it for the last two years has changed the oil every six months himself (using top quality fully synth oil), he's put new plugs in (the platinum tipped ones), and generally kept a close eye on it. However, there must be a few things that it'd be worth doing on a car that's done this mileage.
