  • Any - Time to sell privately 13 Jun 2021 (Forum)
It is a 1.8 ES 2012 with nearly 90000 miles on the clock, but it ahead on its servicing and has been maintained carefully fir the 6 years we have had it (extra oil changes/premium fuel etc). It is advertised bang on the autotrader estimate of £4250, trade examples are a good £1000 or more. Thinking we would be happy to see it go around the £3.8-4K mark. The car buying group are offering £3090, if that is helpful.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus 2015 1.5tdci Blown Head Gasket 27 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Took it to Dees Of Wimbledon Ford Dealer, and they (without investigation) said I need new engine for £8,000,told them to stick it. Went into local garage and they suggested could be oil cooler, egr cooler, or head gasket. After investigation they changed egr cooler. This stopped all soot particles in coolant, however the air in coolant persisted.  Since then I have replaced the thermostat and water pump.
  • Renault Laguna 05’ Turbo Problems 2 Jul 2019 (Forum)
So please if you have any experience about this car and the turbo problems I would appreciate your opinions, i will get a new turbo and I’ve been told that there is something like a sieve, probably inside in one of the pipes or the hoses that are going in or out the turbo, still not sure where it is, but it doesn’t let enough oil through, because it gets greasy. Please let me know if there is any solution you would’ve think of, thank you!!
  • Tiguan 2013, 24,000 miles. 4WD. - Clutch release bearing? 2 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Our manual 6-speed Tiguan recently had its gearbox removed and refurbed after a hole developed in the casing a spewed oil everywhere. It’s gone back in, and for a few weeks everything felt great again. Over the weekend I’ve begun to feel clutch pulsation on the pedal when its depressed fully – it disappears once the clutch is back past the bite point after changing gear. 1 st and 2 nd gear is a little notchy, shifting both up and down.

Hi All, My Audi is coming to the end of manufacturer's warranty of 3 years (End of this month) It has done about 31215 miles so far and I forecast less than 6000 miles per annum My quote with Audi for an extended warranty comes to £512 (0 Excess, Comprehensive, Without Roadside assistance) But wanted to take a general opinion of other Audi owners you had gone through the situation and know better - Is there any common red flags with Audi A4 2011 2.0 TDI 143 hp CVT (Automatic) that its better to cover with the warranty (For the miles I am forecasting and the miles the car has done so far) So far - My car has been maintained according to the Audi schedule and recently undergone MOT (Mar-2014) and a Full service / Oil change as a part of my service plan Any advice would be great Thanks S
  • Vauxhall corsa 1.2 - Cold starting problem 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi John I have a corsa for my daughter and have a cold starting problem. The parts I have changed are, engine oil (5/40 grade) and filter, coil pack, plugs, air filter, fuel filter and MAF (mass airflow meter) twice and temperature switch. When cold I cannot start the engine, its just revs then dies down and splutters to a stop.
  • Ford Fiesta 2003 Duratec - Engine noises 9 May 2010 (Forum)
Hi,   Recently I have noticed more noise than usual from my engine.   It is a 1.4 duratec with 140K; it has regular oil and filter changes (Castrol Magnatec 5W/30)   Firstly when cold it is very ‘tappety’ a distinctive ticking noise which disappears once warm.
  • Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - Faulty brakes - possible skid risk? 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
It's the coupe version and due to the lightness of the back looks prone to oversteering anyway. Just wondering whether it's worth getting this valve changed if there's a chance it could do it again. Cheers, Dave.

  • FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 00 1.25 temperature gauge 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Got it all fixed at a cost of 600 quid including a few other bit (tail light, handbreak tightening and oil and filter change), got car on wednesday and it drove better than it ever had, really smooth and resposive - however, this morning on way to work (only a 3 mile trip) the temp gauge slowly crept up to High and it made 'gargling' sound, it was only for about a second but cannot be good, considering loads of work has just been done.

  • Peugeot 406 warning light 22 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The 2nd question concerns the digital display in the centre. There is a "spanner" which I am sure is linked to oil changes etc and I believe it can be reset by a combination of the 2 reset buttons on the set into the panel.I have tried every combination I can think of but can't crack it. Could someone please tell me how to reset it.
  • Economy/MAF Sensor - 1.9 TDI Seat Toledo 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Does a failing MAF sensor always light up the engine management light? How fragile are these things exactly? My economy has been down since I changed the oil, diesel and air filter. :-S I had to be quite rough and ready with the air filter housing, as I couldn't get the big pipe off the lid part of the housing, and I assume the MAF is the little sensor near there.
  • BMW 530I Touring 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
5 How long does it take to fully charge the battery. Apologies for the simple questions, but I have no expertise under the bonnet (check oil / change washer fluid / jump starts is as far as it goes). Thanks
  • need some help buying a secondhand car. 2 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My priorities when looking for a vehicle are that it be economical, small, low insurance group, and a car that if need be I can maintain it/ service (oil, filter, plug change) myself. Could any body please recommend some cars that might be within this price range and fitting within my priorities. please ask me any questions, if there is anything I have forgotten to mention. thank you for your help.
  • Mitsubishi parts & pricing 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Just been down to the dealer to get some parts: 1. Asked for Mitsubishi antifreeze concentrate (it needs a coolant change). Told that Mitsi don't sell their own coolant anymore. "What do you use then?". Reply - "Oh, just anything - the cheapest". "Erm....OK" (Scratches head and rolls eyes). 2. Ask for oil filter.
  • Volvo 850 performance 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The car seems to have been well cared for (bought it two weeks ago) and has been regularly serviced. Would a bit of TLC make any difference do you think? i.e. new air filter, plugs, oil change etc. (i realise it wouldn't hurt!) Any advice appreciated Regards Bob PS. please, no suggestions to post elsewhere....this is by far the best and most helpful forum on the net!
  • Toyota Starlet - Value 8 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I would describe it's condition as "very good" to "excellent", although not "mint", after all it's nearly 10 years old. It has recently had an oil & filter change, full valet and had brand new front discs and pads. It has 89k miles on the clock which is below average without being worrying low. It also has sunroof and CD player although no ABS or power steering.
  • Semi-mothballed car 9 Sep 2004 (Forum)
What should I be doing to look after it? I'm getting it serviced next week (the 70k service is tiny, just an oil change and level checks) and new brake pads and front tyres put on. Cam belt isn't due for another 10k or 1 year according to local Citroen dealership, so nothing to worry about there. How should I be driving it when I do take it out?
