  • Buying a new SUV - SEAT Ateca or Mazda CX-3? 1 Dec 2016 (Ask HJ)
I have decided to get myself a car and want to get an SUV. However, with more than 50 different models on sale, I can’t make a decision on which one to...
  • Our newly-bought, used Mazda CX-5 is emitting white smoke - what should we do? 9 Feb 2018 (Ask HJ)
We've recently purchased a 2014 Mazda CX-5 2.0 petrol with 108,000 miles on the clock. On the day of the purchase, we pointed out some white smoke coming...
  • Skoda Yeti - My third Yeti 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I did consider a few alternatives to the Yeti: CRV – expensive, nice car though CX5 – ?? issues with DPF / regeneration system, no petrol available to demo Qasqai – like the new styling, but proved too costly for "like for like" spec Duster - very low rent interior, lacking in spec, documented issues with build quality / rust, very cheap though i35 / Sportage - didn't drive that well, hugely expensive for "like for like" spec (4WD / 2.0 TDi), long warranty (although from the personal experience of a friend any "goodwill" on behalf of the manufacturer relies heavily on main dealer servicing throughout the warranty period, regardless of the EU block exemption) but for the price paid the FL Yeti seemed the ideal choice.
  • Skoda Yeti 140 ks 4x4 or Honda CR-V 2.0 150 ks? 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
What about reliability between those two? Should i be worried about DPF problems becouse of short distances that i have in everyday driving? (as i said there is weekends when we are traveling longer distances, and summer time very long distances). Also how about piezo injectors problems on this TDI engine?
  • Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 diesel - First 5 months of ownership 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The speedo is also very accurate reading no more than 2mph more than my satnav at any speed. I haven't noticed any smoke and if the dpf has regenerated I've missed it but I do a lot of motorway runs and little town driving. I've towed a 750kg trailer almost fully loaded several times and that was hassle free and helped by the self levelling suspension that comes as standard with the 7 seater.
  • Used cars of the year 13 Oct 2019 (Forum)
These are easy to sell on, have loads of room and don’t go wrong often. Juddering clutched and the occasional blocked DPF on low use cars aside they’re pretty robust if a bit dull to drive. A far far better bet than a used BMW X3/X5 or similar at this money. Sub £4,000 Honda CRV 2.0 VTEC. As above but at this money the petrol is far safer is much slower and greedier.
  • Used Market Petrol v Diesel Study 12 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Its interesting to note increasing reliability issues with diesels and with the savings sometimes not drastic over petrols this information could tempt people to consider the possibly more reliable petrol models more, especially in cases of cars with DPF's etc Also in some cases it appears the savings gap between the two fuel types narrows as the car gets older, perhaps thats obvious as well but its nice to investigate. Overall theres more used petrols than diesels out there, as diesel has only really caught on mainstream in the last 5-10 years.
