Opinions required 23 May 2016 (Forum)
I then got a 13 plate Toyota Yaris, with 8k on the clock, 2 years on and an extra 40k on the clock and that is having issues with the DPF. So, firstly does PCP make any sense in my situation (have worked out the sums and that is fine, including the extra for additional mileage) as it would mean I could keep switching the car (as they seem to keep getting problems when they hit higher mileage) Secondly, what car would you recommend to me? -
Volkswagen Golf mk5 Estate - Options? 1 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The total bill is likely going to be more than double that and I could yet encounter further costs for example a new EGR valve or even DPF issues. I have requested from the garage I bought it from, written confirmation and receipts for the parts that they are claiming were new. -
Looking for a "hot-hatch" type car (second ever) 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My daily commute is 5 miles each way, so I think it probably makes anything Diesel out of the question because the DPF would be blocked in short order! Thanks for reading this far. I look forward to hearing your responses. -

2014 Vauxhall Astra GTC J 2.0L Diesel - MPG suddenly dropped by 30-40% 3 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Is this something to do with charging the alternator as the battery got so low when I was parked up or is this some sort of DPF cleaning?? Thing is it started when engine wasnt even up to temp. Gave me a bit of a scare as I have only owned the car 2 weeks and I have been used to the excellent MPG it usually provides! If anybody could clear this up thatd be seriously appreciated! -
Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0tdi 2010 - Rattling noise from engine area 10 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I previously had a zafira diesel where I ended up replacing the clutch and flywheel and it still persisted and ended up being to do with the egr/ dpf side of things, the rattling flywheel was as a result of a poorly running engine. The car starts and sounds to me like the engine is running poorly. I have recorded this but I am unsure how to upload. -

Focus Conundrum 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)

Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Mondeo IV 2.0TDCI - 20,000 mile report 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It's averaged a genuine, measured 42.5mpg (43.3 on the computer, which I have never reset), 70% driving in urban 30 / 40 limits and journeys under 10 miles, 30% motorway / A road trips. Considering the size & weight of car I think this is pretty good. No DPF problems, regenerations are now unobtrusive. I reported before about the "oil service" light issue: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=65055&m=740483&v=e The indifferent: Slapdash assembly-line work under the bonnet, with intercooler hoses and clips, and vac pipes not fitted securely. -
Hyundai i40 tourer 1.7 active 115ps - Reliability/Economy/Maintenance 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Also note that the car requires C3 spec oil, that is Low SAPS/Low ash oil... vital to prevent problems with the DPF. Good news is... it has a timing chain, so as long as the oil changes are done regularly with decent oil as specified, and the engine isn't thrashed, no problems to be expected there! Tyres: Someone on another thread here was saying that the OE spec Hankook tyres were rubbish.... -

Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (08) - Ford refuse to help charity - turbo failure warning 18 Feb 2021 (Forum)
After much toing and throwing, Ford Customer Relations said that they were not prepared to help the charity as their technical team believed it was a servicing issue (that the likelihood was that oil starvation due to poor servicing caused the turbo failure, which caused the dpf failure and then engine failure). This is not what the Ford Service Centre told me, which was that the foreign body that caused the turbo failure could have been from anything and it was impossible to say what the cause was. -

mazda 6 2.2 sport - madza 6 engine failure under warranty 30 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Apparently when you get your car serviced with mazda they are told drop the sump and check the strainer as part of the service, this alone tells me that mazda know that there is a problem with there diesels. Every time the DPF filter regenerates it releases some diesel into the engine which again changes the oil and affects its properties, which means it can't keep the metal parts of the engine cool enough, so what happens with the heat and the friction is that the softest part of the engine gives way.
