New car - old car? £7,000 down the drain? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Last night the gears became difficult to select and from the feel of it - it`s the linkage - not the box. But it crossed my mind - move it on or not? The problem is that a new DPF diesel can`t do that exceptional stop start work and we have been warned off even contemplating it by a Fiat dealer. That leaves a small petrol motor - but the constant cold running - of typically a few hundred yards - half an hour parked - means almost double the fuel used. -
Skoda Yeti - My Yeti(s) 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The TDi Karoq I drove was £31k!! I'm mindful of the potential for costly failures (clutch / flywheel, DPF, EGR, Turbo etc), as the car ages, but hope to see >100k miles before anything big fails. I purchased the full version of the VAG DPF app and understand my DPF is 40% filled with oil ash. I extended the Skoda breakdown cover, as it seemed good value at £90 / year, but other than that am "flying solo" with regards to warranty cover. -

59 Ibiza TDI 1.6 - To keep or not? 10 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I had the diagnostic done yesterday and they want 500 big ones to fix, wiring has corroded to the turbo sensor and one of the dpf soot level sensors is faulty. The guy in the garage said I got lucky as it could have been the turbo itself due to its age and mikes (130k). Bearing in mind the car is 11.5 years old and has done 130k, also is overdue on timing belt replacement (every 4 years on this model), so another 500-600 Inc water pump etc. -
Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai, loss of power, alarm going off etc 29 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Everything I suggest like fuel pressure ECU etc they just dismiss, yet can give me no idea at all as to what is wrong - not even suggest when asked. They did try banging on about the DPF (told them no at the time) and low and behold it was not that. Called into local garage on the way home and they plugged it in and flagged it two error codes, but Nissan aren’t really taking any notice of that. -
Mazda 5 - Mazda 5 - 2008 - D I E S E L ! losing power 23 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hi guys, I am all to aware about the bad reputation these cars have with DPF's, injector washers and so on but try to keep everything at bay myself. I am not a mechanic by trade but am very hands on and not afraid to get stuck in. I had planned on timing belt/drive belts etc this weekend for said vehicle but something happened yesterday. -
No idea - Large load space for dog cage and other gear 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
We don't need the 7 seats we have in the Alhambra, but it does need room for 4 adults in relative comfort. It must be petrol as we do lots of short runs (I've screwed up the DPF and Cat on our diesel Alhambra). Fuel economy is relatively unimportant. I value reliability far higher than looks, and with the exception of e-windows in the front I am not fussed about any gadgets. -

Ford B-MAX - 1.0 Ecoboost B-Max as a second car - thoughts? 16 Dec 2017 (Forum)
On the surface this seems to tick a lot of boxes: - A fairly economical engine, that has performance when needed - No DPF, Powershift auto etc. to worry about - The taller body and sliding doors are better for tall people - Cheap VED - Decent reviews However, it has been on his forecourt for 6 months, after he took it in part-ex.
